Need support (Mine flaked)

I feel like I'm going to need support for my upcoming life changing. Problem is, I thought I had support- in the form of my roommates. While I have come slowly into the mind frame of what I need to eat more of, less of, and cut out- they seem content on keeping to what they want to eat. Which makes it harder for me, as we take turns cooking meals for each other.
Last night, we were going to go out to dinner and a movie. We stopped at a local restaurant, and I ordered what I normally do. I knew it wasn't the healthiest, but it was one of the few things I liked on their menu. When we got home and I added it to my calorie counter, I was horrified. I looked up their meals too, and when I told them, one replied that they didn't care. And "I'll eat what I want to eat."
When I talked about loosing weight, they were all in it with me. Now it seems I'm alone.
Can I get some support? I'd really like to lose 120 pounds in a year and a half. My friend is getting married and I'm a bridesmaid.

    Hey there,

I just started this today. I have never been one for counting my calories. Whenever the topic came up I thought of "plastic girls."
I know what you mean about the support. My boyfriend, who I live with, eats anything and everything. In a year I put on about 50 lbs. I've lost 10 over the past 6 months and have maintained my weight. However, this isn't enough. My goal is to loose 50 Lbs and that would put me at a "healthy" state. I started this today as an attempt to control my eating habits. I love food, but its time to learn to love it in smaller portions. Weight is an issue in my life and always has been. This is my first attempt at calorie counting. Do you have any experience? Is it difficult to stick to?
  • I log in daily and am looking for friends. I am also going it alone in my fitness quest and it's been tough. Tough to run on the treadmill while people sit on the couch next to me drinking beer, tough to pop in an exercise DVD while others play video games, tough to watch every calorie out at dinner and make sure my daily workout gets in, no matter when or where I have to do it.

I'm looking to lose about 60lbs. My current commitments to myself are to workout 6 days a week and track my food, trying to stay under the limit set for each day.
  • I am right there with you. Everyone else in my house eats whatever and junk food is constantly streaming through. One thing I've heard and experienced personally that helps A LOT is keeping all sorts of healthy food (that you can enjoy) stocked up in your house. I love fruit, and found that for me, bananas and Yoplait yogurt whips are the perfect easy grab snack for me rather than that cosmic brownie calling my name.
I hope this helps. I started up a year ago, fizzled out, and like so many others, want to make a fresh start with the new year. I too have a wedding to slim down for this May. My motivation? I bought the dress a size too small. Not exactly a smart move but when I'm feeling down in the dumps I think of the $130 wasted and hassle caused if I didn't keep going.

Feel free to add me, I could always use a little help too. :)
  • I've counted calories before, and I had been good for a while back. I dropped nearly forty pounds. But after moving in with my roomies, and eating normal foods again, I gained it all back. Counting calories is easy, actually. It's just knowing how much you actually intake.

Turtle- you look like Katherine Heigl!!! Gorgeous!

All you ladies are welcome to add me. I live with my "skinny-fat" boyfriend who drinks Pepsi and eats crap all the time. I'm pretty new on here, too, and can use the support!

I find mfp ppl have definitely helped me be more accountable for all the crap I eat and help me stay motivated to exercise. I fell off the bandwagon in the fall/winter and I don't want to repeat this again this year. All of you are welcome to add me, if you like, and hopefully we can help each other stay motivated.

Hey, if I can loose weight using MFP anyone can. My 23 year old son lives with me and he brings chips, soda, pot pies and frozen pizza into the house. You'd be amazed how many calories & fat are in one little slice. If you keep logging your food and try to keep to your calorie limit - you will lose the weight. I'm nearly halfway to my goal weight. It has taken a little longer than I planned but hey I am losing weight for the first time in years.

Remember to key to the success of this site is that we keep eating the same stuff again & again. So you learn what you can or can't do and what works for you - not what works for someone else.
  • I started my weight loss journey after having a birthday b'fast with some girlfriends and listening to them talk about all these cleanses and Advocare supplements they have been doing to lose weight. The cost of all this was crazy and i did not see too much of a weight loss. So....I decided to lose weight by eating less and exercising more (Dah - guess this works!!). Now, when I go out with them, they always watch what I eat and make comments about their cleanses and pill diets.

It turned out to be sort of a "I'll show you" thing for me - not nice but it got me motivated.

Now, I don't car who is around or where I go, I have my protein on a large salad - hold the cheese, nuts and croutons please
  • Thanks, today is a better day. I've decided I'm going to eat healthier meals, and even if it means I don't eat what they cook, -shrug-, then oh well. I bought healthy frozen meals for the days I work. Got protein shakes for meal replacements, like lunch. Eating healthy cereals or oatmeal. Lots of fruits and veggies to be added.
Even better, is knowing that my mom is in this with me. :)
