The burned calories on this seem high for the activity?

How close do you all think the burned calories are on this. There is no way in an hour and half of exersise I burnt almost 1K calories as the site shows. I am doing a workout on the Xbox Kinect and it only said 250, which to me seems closer. Any Thoughts?

Mfp numbers are generally much higher than the average person's actual burns. I would count only half of them if you are eating them back. Better thing would be to get a good Heart Rate Monitor.
Go by the Xbox numbers to be safe.0 -
I was thinking the same. When I work out on a treadmill or other machine, I always go by what the machine says since it's lower than the app. If you know what the calorie burn is for what you are doing, you can just manually enter it in.0

Hey go with the high it will encourage u to workout harder.0

Thanks, I did not know you could do manual. Just started this week.0

MFP's numbers are usually under my heart rate monitor, but over what some of the machines say.
That being said, a 130lb person is not going to require as many calories to run for an hour as say a 230lb person. I generally split the difference between the MFP and my HRM to be safe.0 -
Here is a great site if you know your average heart rate.

get a heart rate monitor. they give pretty decent approximations of how many calories you actually burn.
i use one and then have endomondo sport tracker and endomondo keeps track of calories and time and other things. It also uploads the calories to mfp when i'm done with my workout. pretty seamless.0 -

Thanks, I have been trying to not re-eat my burnt calories, and I have been going by the Xbox numbers just to be safe.0 -
this says pretty much the same as my treadmill at the gym. plus I dont eat back those burnt calories anyways.0

Well that gives me almost the same numbers. I guess I will just go with a happy medium and get a heart rate monitor.0 -
Not ALL the burns here are inflated- the running ones, for example, are pretty reasonable. If it seems high, it's probably high. Even if you're bigger, 1k cals in 90 minutes would be a pretty intense workout- like the equivalent of running almost the whole time.0

I was thinking they were a bit high too, but not drastically. My plan is not to eat back my calories burned and go out once in a while and not worry about what I choose to eat as long as I don't go crazy. Will allow me a more normal life I think.0

I am new to all this, so thanks. I thought it seemed high.0 -
I have also heard many times the calories burned on here are high ... but I keep it like that it does encourage me .. as someone previously posted. But I do not eat the calories "I burn"0

I always half whatever MFP says I burned. and now that I have a fitbit, it does say about half of what the site used to say I burned0

I thought it was high. I will half the burn calories from now on.0

Also.. I see that it says I have joined MFP in 2012 ... thats when I got my phone and found the app ... I never did anything with it until 2 wks ago! I didnt want anyone to think I have been doing this for a year and only lost 8 pounds!! LOL
Im down 8 since Jan 2, 2013!0 -
That's why I bought a Polar FT7 HRM - the machines (Cybex in particular) overestimate most of the time.0
-
i think mfp goes higher in estimates BUT unless you are eating back your workout calories i dont think that it would negatively impact your weight loss journey. If however you are eating them back i would suggest getting a HRM for a more accurate picture. There are online resources like another person pointed out for getting a better estimate as to how many calories you are burning which is what i do and unless i am putting forth very strenuous effort i go by the "middle" number of the estimates.0

I think the best thing to do really is just bite the bullet and get a bodymedia armband. Takes guesswork completely out of the equation with an exact number on how many calories you burned.0
