Fitbit One + Polar FT4 Questions

Hey guys! I've been on roughly a year long quest to get into shape and am down about 50 pounds so far. Having trouble losing more so started here on MyFitnessPal :)

I've had a Fitbit for a long time and LOVE IT. Like absolutely addicted. I know it isn't super accurate as far as calories-burned measurements are concerned.

Today I decided I wanted to get a HRM and chose the Polar FT4. It was cheap and does everything I want it to. What I'm concerned about is the differences in calories burned between Fitbit and the FT4.

I know that I could just unsync the Fitbit from MyFitnessPal, but I'm not able to do intensive workouts 7 days a week and want my Fitbit steps (average about 7-8 miles a day) to count some exercise calories on the days when I don't go to the gym.

Is there any way to make these two play well together, or should I just unsync Fitbit from MFP?

Please let me know what you guys would do... thank you!

I could be wrong but you will have to enter the info from your Polar FTA into MFP....they don't sync....therefore you can leave your FitBit synced.
  • I know the Polar doesn't sync automatically like Fitbit -- but if I leave Fitbit and also manually do the Polar measurements, is it going to double up the calories burned? I don't want to cheat :)

Take your FitBit off when you do intentional exercise and use the HRM. Your HRM is only meant to be used during exercise that significantly raises your HR like running, biking, cardio type things. If you wear it all the time like the FitBit it will give hugely exaggerated numbers.

Wear your FitBit when you're just doing your day to day things if you want to get your daily burn in and take it off when you exercise and log the calories from your HRM.

I have my FitBit and my FT7. I wear my FitBit 24/7 and have it synced to MFP. So I can tell you, from experience, that all you have to do is to enter in your workout data manually that you get from your Polar and enter in the exact start time & length of your workout and the FitBit data will not be entered for that time period.

When you enter your calories for the HRM exercise if you put in the start time MFP reduces the fitbit activity for that time. They play nicely together
  • I don't have an answer for you but I just wanted to let you know that I have the Polar FT4, I'm wearing it right now actually, and I absolutely LOVE it! I wear it every time I workout and it's so convenient and the interface is easy to use and with the chest strap it's accurate.
  • Thank you guys for the help! I am very impressed with the Polar right now.. love it :)
