What food to eat / avoid on a diet?

Is this a good list of healthy , unhealthy food to eat and avoid while losing weight?
I found it on a website before starting to follow it just wanted to make sure the list is ok.

If I follow the list and only eat food which is on the healthy food list and avoid all on the food not to eat list.

Is that a good diet list of food you should eat when losing weight?

    I eat popcorn almost every day. It's low in carbs and calories (when you actually measure out proper servings). I didn't bother reading what TO eat.........
    It's a website, not a diet plan. Sure, you know too much sugar/refined carbs leads to weight gain. You know a lot of "food" contains refined carbs/sugar/excess fats.
    Use common sense, count your calories and stay with in your macros for carbs and fat. Exercise.

    It's calories in vs out and in context to weight loss, it's less calories than your body requires that impacts weight loss, period. Saying that there is some dogma attached to those link but if you decides to follow those suggestions, that's fine, as would any combination of the two, see how that works. :smile:

    Oh yeah I meant monitor what I'm eating and make up the calories from whats on the things to eat list .

    To be general lower in weight? Eat anything with you calories below maintenance at the end of the day after energy is expended.

    To be in fine physical shape, well then it matters.

    My general rules for losing weight is not dieting per se, but to focus on eating well. Eat as little prepackaged, processed food as you can. Especially avoid eating out in restaurants. Cook your meals with fresh ingredients and watch your caloric intake depending on whether you want to loose fat or gain muscle. I think dieting is a bad idea, most people end up going back to their old habits in the end. Changing your approach to food and what you chose to eat is more important, because that eventually will become the norm.

    Yeah my goals are to lose weight.
    I was already going to cut out the junk food I've done it before and didn't find it hard. Like I just want to switch to healthier things like from white pasta to the wholewheat , no white bread just brown . Try and cut down on processed food and some of the meats with a lot of fat etc. Like I'm not going to eat everything on that list as I don't like some of whats on the list just going to see what I like from the list and try and eat more of that.

    Use a good rule of thumb, if it looks like it was when it came from the ground/animal, eat it. If doesn't don't. If you are not sure, don't.

    Keeps things easy.

    Exactly! And keeping food safety in mind, something that is cooked the least, retains most of it nutritional value.

    I have been researching for over a year and there is a lot of misrepresentation, misinformation, etc.

    The way to a healthier body is the following:

    Eat natural foods i.e. fruits, vegetables, meat (steak instead of hamburger) etc., natural unsalted nuts and beans.

    Don't worry about the amount of sugar from fruits it is not the same as processed sugars, high-fructose corn syrup, etc.

    Try to not eat white or whole wheat bread but whole grain instead (read the labels as advertisers are tricky).

    Stay away from most trans and saturated fats but you still need some sat fats but from good sources like avacado etc. again whole natural foods.

    Stay away from all processed foods, low fat / lower sugar / margarine and other substitute items.

    This is not all inclusive but can get you in the right direction.

    Bottom line more calories burned than consumed = weight loss. But healthier eating means both weight loss, a much healthier you (heart, liver, kidneys, etc.). And it is much easier to maintain a good healthy eating habit than a diet.

    Good luck to you and everyone else out there that are working hard to improve their lives.

    Oh yeah and exercising is a main ingredient in a healthier life, don't have to run a marathon or won a muscle building contest. Just work out several times a week with cardio (in the fat burning or maintaining zone) and some strength exercises even the small dumbbells if nothing else.

    I'd probably eat things like wholegrain bread , wholewheat pasta , mash/baked potatoes , chicken/turkey.Cutting out pork and harm apart from sliced ham . Should I cut out beef and lamb? and I'd eat fish like cod , haddock , mackerel , tuna etc...
    Then other foods like cottage cheese , wholegrain crackers , greek yoghurt. Maybe pizza but the healthier ones like ristorante .
    Smoothies , water , green tea , orange juice for drinks.

    I'd eat vegetables like lettuce , cucumber , carrots . tomato , corn as I don't really like all the other vegetables.

    And for snacks I'd eat any fruit or unsalted nuts or plain popcorn, yoghurt and granola bars .

    and breakfast would be either porridge , toast with peanut butter , cereal like shreddies or oatibix or fibre 1.

    Does this food look okay for the kind of things I can eat to be healthy and I like everything on the list I've just cut out all the unhealthy things I'd usually eat.


    I need to eat 1200 calories a day. Is this the general way I'd do it eating 5 times a day?

    You don't have to cut out beef and lamb is healthier than beef so it is OK. Try to eat steak more than hamburgers. You can still have pork too just not too often.

    Corn and lettuce have no nutritional value but they don't hurt you either so you can eat them. I would try to add more dark green vegetables like broccoli and spinach if you can stomach it. Also think about other items most people don't normally consider like blueberries, blackberries, strawberries etc.

    Cereals are usually not the way to go but sticking to whole grain is good. Wheat is really not that good for you, try to go for whole grains in bread and everything else you eat. Brown rice (the right kind of brown rice) is also a good item.

    Obviously moderation, good portions, and eating smaller meals / snacks throughout the day is key. It helps your metabolism and helps keep you from being hungry.

    If you any further questions on specific foods let me know. I am not an expert, doctor, or nutritionist but I have been researching for a long time. Anyone else out there that sees something I posted here and believe it is wrong please feel free to chime in and correct me. It would help me as well as the original poster.
