At what age did you or your kids do talent shows, if you/they wanted?

My kindergartner REALLY wants to be in a talent show, and this is causing an arguement with ex. Personally if she really wants to I can't see the harm in letting her audition with a little song she likes?

Or even her interpretive dance, love her dancing.
(like Elaine from Seinfeld but a child who doesn't care at all who's looking).

I think if it is something they want to do, why not? :)

Whats his argument? That its silly?
I loved ballet recitals and piano recitals and I started at 5. I would never discourage my kid from exploring his potential talent.

If she dances like Elaine from Seinfeld, steer her towards singing. =) I think that if kids enjoy performing, they should be allowed to do so. And people aren't very judgmental when kids are little, anyway. It's not like she'll get booed off stage. She'll find that either she likes it or doesn't.

My school put on a mandatory talent show every year from pre-K until 5th grade. It was great fun! Everybody got to earn some props from their classmates and feel like they're the star for a few days afterward.

    I don't see the harm.

Our school has one for K-8 and there are kindergartners in there and soooo darn cute

I think if she wants to do it its a great thing - getting up in front of people is a BRAVE thing to do and kuddos to her for wanting to do this - I say let her!!

He's been watching too much Toddlers & Tiaras, obviously.

EVERY kid (of any age) should get out there and sing, or dance, or be in a play, or whatever they feel like doing. They're kids, they should be exploring everything. Their entire lives will be much more enjoyable if they see the world as a place to explore, and know that they are capable of exploring it!
