Bad skin ?? Anyone else or just me-

I don't know if this is the appropriate "board" to put this on but does anyone have a skin issue since they started working out a lot?? I have a few blemishes here and there on my face and never had them before ....... I'm sure they are just a result of all the sweating but my skin is horrible right now :frown: - someone please tell me this will pass...:ohwell:

I haven't had this problem, but my guess would be sweat. Do you wash your face right after working out? Since it seems like your skin may be pretty sensitive to the sweat, maybe you could wash it before even leaving the gym, so it has no time to settle...
Also, try removing any make-up before you working out/sweating. The combination of the two could be irritating your skin.0 -
Maybe it is getting rid of the bad stuff right now?
People who do fasting are known to have awful skin, bad breath and e.g. yellow tongue, too. Cleansing sort of thing.0 -
I think bad skin can occur as your body is getting rid of all the impurities and in some people the skin suffers, however it is short lived. Lots and lots of water will help.0

I've actually found the opposite. When I work out regularly my skin gets clearer and smoother. I agree with Sofie that it may be clearing you out. Make sure you shower and wash your face as soon as you can after each shower and give it a few weeks.0

Washing before and after is wise, and drinking LOTS of water. Your body is going through changes right now! I found that over time, from clean eating and working out, my skin is healthier than it ever was before.0

Just drink lots of water, wash your face every morning and night some people even suggest before and after you work out. Also eat well and take vitamins. And most importantly, talk to a dermatologist0

I was thinking I was eating adequately and then thinking maybe it's just the sweat but my skin is blahhhhhh right now and my skin has always been clear. I don't wear make-up (well I might now) and no hairspray/gel so I'm not sure whats goin on. I hope it's just the impurities clearing out- this sucks :grumble:
I will for sure try the washing before and after- and I do need to turn up my water intake too.

I'm an esthetician. Could be the sweat. Bacteria is what causes acne. Make sure you are washing your face with a cleanser with Salicylic Acid after your workouts. Could also be your body purging.
I always tell my clients - the healthier you are on the inside, the healthier your skin will look on the outside. Drink water, eat healthy, get rest.0 -

My skin is actually clearer now that I'm working out regularly. One thing to think about is that if you are washing your face more often then that could be contributing, too, especially with it being the winter (depending on where you are). I would say definitely stay hydrated and don't wash too much. I personally find that using a wet cloth with hot water to wipe down my face is the best cleansing option throughout the day. In the evenings I like to use an astringent, but I don't always use that and I almost never wear make ups or lotions. I do have some face creams that I use in the evenings sometimes.0

have you increased your exercise? If so, that is probably it. It is important to clean up as soon as possible afterwards to prevent your pores from clogging.0

I'm in Minnesota so it's dry and since I'm in and out of the elements (to the gym/back home/to work/ back home) I bet that can be part of it too maybe.........but YES, like you said- maybe not with soap before and after the workout because I feel like that may be too rough- just at night and in the morning. Increased it by 100% since the new year.... I HOPE that's mostly it. I usually do cardio (most of the sweating happens at that time) and then I do abs or strength training............and as I'm writing this I'm realizing that I should probably do strength training/ ab work first and then cardio- and then stretch and then shower

When you heat up from working out your pores open and your sweat helps to remove some of the dirt and other stuff from below the surface but it also pushes the already forming zits to the surface.
Just wash and moisturize your face twice a day, once after working out and one other time during the day and you should be fine. If it starts getting out of control then see a dermatologist.0 -
I was literally making an appointment with the derm but people around me were saying they think it's because of the working out/change in diet..............so hopefully it will improve with these changes you all have suggested and just time If not I will be to the derm in exactly 2 weeks. I can't have this. :grumble:0

1. Sweat causing bacteria to get into pores.
2. Possibly malnutrition due to too low of calorie intake
The idea that impurities or toxins are coming out because you're healthier now is absolutely FALSE.
Do you have internal organs? If so, check to see if your kidneys and liver are still there. If they are, they take care of ALL your "impurities" and "toxins".
Solution to your problem:
1. Wash immediately after exercising
2. Eat more food if calorie levels are too low
3. See about a daily multivitamin if you notice prolonged deficiencies in certain vitamins/minerals0 -
Keep us posted! I have always suffered from terrible skin but ever since I've tried to eat healthier & workout more, my skin has really gotten better. It will sometimes go through a stage where I breakout for a week but it's usually more related to my cycle now over what I'm putting in my mouth like it was before. I really think it's just your body cleansing itself & should resolve itself as long as you stay consistent with your new way of eating & exercising. Definitely up your water intake as much as possible!0

UPDATE; I'M CURED!!!! LOL! I don't know what it was (wasn't that time of the month) but my skin was baaaad. I'm still working out the same but I'm rinsing before and after and have a new face wash for at night Everything is back to normal- may have been a combination of new exercise regimen, new eating habits, new sleeping habits etc....
