Can't sleep since dieting..HELP

Hey guys! So since I've been watching my calories this new year I haven't been able to sleep at night!!! IT'S HORRIBLE! Have you guys experience this?? Im eating with a litle under my goal, should I save a meal for right before bed? Just wondering if anyone's expereince this before...I've watched what I ate other years BUT never experienced this!!!!!

restricting your calories too low will cause sleep troubles from what ive heard0

I'm dealing with this! I find it helps to eat a small snack before bed, that way you can fall asleep without your stomach grumbling.0

Since you have room in your calories at the end of the day, I'd eat a spoonful of peanut butter or some string cheese so your stomach is happy and full of protein when you go to bed.0

Hmm, are you upping your caffiene? Could there be any other factors?
Have you tried sleepytime tea with valerian root, or melatonin?
I always always have a hard time sleeping, but thats from anxiety. Im not sure if changing your diet could affect it, but i imagine it would.0 -
When I'm dieting, I just think about eating lots and lots of food, then I fall asleep dreaming of food. Ahhhhhh....mmmmm..chocolate.0

I agree with restricting too much affecting your sleep. It happens to me... if I don't eat enough I cannot sleep well.
Ensure you are eating enough.. ensure you are eating enough protein, fiber, fats, calories and ensure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals in your diet.
Restrict caffeine in the hours before bed if you have trouble sleeping. See if that helps. Have a snack just before going to bed... that tends to help some people.0 -
I heard cottage cheese as an evening snack helps which i have been doing off and on and it seems to help. Carbs also helps me too because it makes me tired0

Oh how annoying! I'd recommend a snack before bed, my favourite is yogurt with cereal and fruit, whatever floats your boat... Good luck!0

I eat a huge chunk of protein before I go to bed to help me sleep. Dinner for me is usually around 6pm and consists of 6 oz of chicken breast and 2 cups of veggies. I wake up hungry around 6am and eat eggs and my protein shake. I'm good from that point.0

Try to eat something 2 hours before you go to bed, it usually takes the human body about 2 hours to "finish" digesting your food, if you are going to bed right after you eat it could be your body is torn so to speak and not allowing your body to focus it's energy on helping your body repair "sleep" ... if you eat 2 hours before that should help out.0

A few days ago, you posted that you are eating approx. 1000 calories a day, and exercising. As a dietetics major, do you think that's a good idea? Do you think it's possible that restricting your calories in such an extreme way might be having an impact on your sleep?0

Are you exercising in the evening? I find that will keep me up a bit later than I want. Switch to am workouts, also dont do anything that can distract you, like watch tv etc in bed.
Sleepytime tea works for me too - as does a warm cup of cocoa.0 -
Try to have your dinner nearer the time you sleep so you don't digest all your food by the time your going bed... That should curb the problem...
If not then try to incorporate more carbohydrates in your diet eg. Rice,pasta,bread,whole meal - bad as it sounds... If you do a carb. Overload, you naturally go sleepy anyway!0 -
I workout late so when I get home from the gym I crash and fall asleep

You're not supposed to aim to be under goal on a regular basis. MFP sets you up with a calorie deficit included in your daily goal so there's no need to cut out even more calories. If your goal is 1400, eat 1400 calories. It may help at first but eventually you'll plateau from having too high of a calorie deficit. So, yes, plan for an evening snack! Just be careful of sugar, chocolate or caffeine content as these things my hype you up a bit and not help the situation.0

no no! not at all lol I'm pretty well balanced, but maybe I will try to eat a TBS of peanutbutter so the fat will satisfy my stomach..it's sooo miserable!!0 -
