Hey guys and gals, has anyone of you got into an accident or had an injury that stopped you from working out?
I injured my left wrist at work and injured my right foot on a race the following week, I thought it was just a minor sprain so I ignored it, but oh my I was wrong. The pain didn't go away in months and it's killing me every time I run or lift weights. Finally went to the doctor and put me on a standby mode for weeks and months. It's been 3 months now and I'm still under therapy. I'm going crazy thinking about gaining weight for lack of exercise. My frustration led me to over eating this past few months and I just can't control myself. The more frustrated I was the more food that I put into my mouth. =(

Hello,
Something that has kept me motivated is I got rid of all the junk food in the house and replaced them with fruits. If this may be hard for you, buy some chocolate that is not as many calories. For example, my mom and I always have cravings for chocolate so we bought a box of the 90 calorie brownies. Tastes like a real brownie, but it's less calories and it'll satisfy the craving. We also have some chocolate covered almonds that my mom eats and she eats about 3-4 every few days and it settles her craving. Also, I know this sounds cliche, but I put a picture of the reason I am losing this weight. I am training to join the Military so I put a picture of the branch of military I am going into and my mom is impressed at how well I am doing. It has only been a couple weeks and I am so close to meeting the physical qualifications to be accepted.0 -
Well that's good to hear Britt2478. I'm starting all over again today. I'll be cleaning out my pantry and fridge and will buy healthier foods again since it's the only option that I have for now.0

I had a major surgery in Oct. 2011 and had complications (my femoral nerve was compressed and I lost feeling from my hip to my ankle). I am an exercise addict so I went into a significant depression. I walked (with a cane/walker) as much as I could, but it wasn't enough and I found myself doing the same thing you describe. My feeling came back slowly so as I was more stable I just made myself walk more (and I even ran short periods of time). I also finally just decided I was tired of feeling sorry for myself and eating like crap and did exactly what you said--bought healthier, worked through cravings and when I would feel down, I would change my scenery--went outside or loaded my kids into the van and just found distraction. It's frustrating and I hope you heal quickly0

I was mountain biking and wiped out. Dislocated my shoulder (out the back), concussion, four cracked ribs and lot of road rash. Had to walk nearly 5 miles out of the mountains to get a ride to hospital too... Was completely laid up for about a week. Extremely painful just to move for weeks after that. Took nearly three weeks to be able tie my own shoes. Lost nearly 15 lbs at first, then because I could not do anything I ate to much and put it all and more back on.
I started looking for high volume low calorie foods to fill up on so I didn't over eat. Favorite is tofu noodles with sprouts, garlic, ginger, soy and some chicken stalk. HUGE bowl is about 300 calories… and I mean a HUGE bowl. This way when I had cravings for a Kit Kat I could work it in without feeling bad about it.
Once I was able to put any pressure on my shoulder I started looking for workouts that burned a max number of calories in the shortest period of time since I was still limited. I settled on Kettle Worx for that and still use it. I can burn 300-500 calories in 30 min and it didn't kill my shoulder at all. It would not be rough on your ankle at all so it may be something to look at. I'll warn you though, it's not an easy workout. It's a 6 week program and it works!
Feel free to write or add me if you like.0
