Who runs in the snow?

I'm in London and it's coming down thick and fast. Left the car at my kids' school (2.5 miles away) this morning - shall I still run or do I have to take the bus...?

It's settling but I'm guessing the pavements may be ok ....

I live in the mid-west in the the states and I don't always, but when I do it is definitely more of a workout. Just watch out for the ice.

I'll run when it's snowing. Not sure I'd want to run through any serious accumulation on the ground. An inch or so maybe, if it's fresh and hasn't turned into ice yet.

I keep trying to run in the snow this winter, but it just refuses to snow at the right time. :(

Me, I love it. I run better during winter for some reason, cold and dark, than I do hot and bright in the summer.

I bought a pair if trail shoes in the sales and enjoy the way snow makes me have to think about balancing, it feels like more of a whole body workout!

I've done some running in the snow. It doesn't bother me other than the burn on my lungs. Other than that, I just have to remember to use a shorter, quicker cadence/stride so that I'm better able to recover if I hit a slick spot.

Warm weather cadence is longer and if your foot slides, you're more apt to get an injury.
  • I'd love to run in the snow! I just don't have the shoes for it. I took one step outside last week (I live in the Netherlands where it's been snowing heavily) and my shoes and socks where wet and icecold. Turned right around back into my house  .

What shoes would you guys advise for snowy, wet weather?

I live in New England and it just snowed. I took the dog with me and it was fine for a bit but there was ice. And I fell. and it hurt, so yeah. I'm not a big fan of winter walks or jogs. I looked at the pooch when i fell and said to her, hey thanks for the warning there buddy. :grumble:

I'm in the east and it's been thick snow all week. I've seen plenty of runners out sticking to their routine, wearing their normal running shoes.

Hmm ... Thanks for all the replies ... It's looking pretty thick on the pavements out there, not sure I could stay upright and I don't fancy those wet icy feet ...
  • I run in the snow! Just be careful.....snow could hide holes in the sidewalk, or be slippery, etc.

I prefer running outside in the winter... I hate running when it's too hot out. Although we recently got almost 2 feet of snow so it was a bit impossible, lol
  • no i hate the snow it makes me wanna kill myself
