So, this is super annoying.
Went to a party Wednesday night, and had 3 glasses of wine. Ate basically nothing. (So ended up getting a lil drunk, whoops.)
Jumped on the scale next morning feeling mad hungover. Scale showed 160, whereas earlier in the week it'd been showing 155. I freaked (but not too badly).
Jumped on the scale this morning, back at 155.
Five. Pounds. Water. Weight. In 24 hours. WTF?!
I've heard from other folks that booze does this. Don't weigh in the morning after you've tied one on.

But has anyone else experienced such a dramatic shift in such a short period of time?

It happens, it changes depending on the time of day you get on the scale, it always changes.

Yup!! I always try to make a note in my diary or my planner or a sticky note on my scale/computer if I go over on sodium or have alcohol etc. to not freak out the next day knowing that I will have water weight! Lol!

The scale is broken, throw it away.

Yup! If you jump back on the wagon immediately and drink alot of water you can have it off in no time.

I do this alot, especially when I go to vegas, I can be up 7lbs and have it off and more before my next weigh in.

Yep, frequently, and in my case nothing to do with alcohol because I so rarely drink.
As long as the scale goes back down quickly, you'll see that it's water weight and no big deal (even though it does kind of suck seeing that number skyrocket!) I had amazing delicious Chinese food last night out with friends...up 2 pounds today, but I know I didn't eat 7000 extra calories, so I'm not too worried.

Yes! And I have problems with water retention in general... it's genetic... I can gain 5lbs of water weight in one day if I eat too much salt. True story. Awful, but true!

Usually after I drink, my weight is low the next day. But if I eat out (and have like 3000 mg of sodium) I gain 5 then lose 5 within a couple of days.
