How Do I avoid getting bored of working out?

I've lost the weight before, so I know what It takes!
I did how ever gain it all back, so I didn't do what it takes to maintain the weight off. There is a spin class that's 50 minutes every evening and it's intense cardio, which Is my passion! But at the end of the day when It's time to feed the family and the husbands home, my goal seems farther and farther away...

Why is that?

When I get to the Spin Class, it's wonderful and at the end, it's even better. Then when I get home afterwards, I'm even more ecstatic!
Then the next day comes, and I'm not into it any more.

  • I have the same problem. I get excited about what I'm doing then with a month I'm not anymore and can't stay motivated. I really don't know what to do myself when that happens. Like now I was walking almost everyday for couple of weeks then it got really hot again then I got sick and now I'm having trouble motivating myself to go walking even in beautiful weather. I can't take heat too much as I get headaches with it and I hate sweating and I sweat like a pig so that doesn't help. I need help staying motivated too.

I used to do the same thing (still do every now and then). I noticed I was doing the exact same workout every gym session ANSI wasgatting really bored and the excuses would start. I now change my routine quite often and when I get bored with one routine I either do some classes or ask my gym instructors for some advice on changing the routine. Or set myself challenges, e.g. be able to run 5k in 30 minutes by the end of the month was one I did a while ago.

Reading your post, it doesn't sound like your bored with the workout. You mentioned you loved the spin class and once you get there you're happy with it.

But the next day your goal seems far away, etc.

So...is the real issue here just getting there? If so, I think that could easily be solved :)

Set aside time for your spin class. Don't make it a "maybe I'll go..." type of thing. Make it "I can't do that tonight, I have my class." type of thing.

Don't think of how far away your goal is. Think of how you're taking the steps needed to get there.

And most of all HAVE FUN! Enjoy yourself :) Let working out be your YOU time! Collect your thoughts. Feel good about yourself.

If you really do get bored with the working out itself, change it up. Do some different activities. Challenge yourself.

    Best of luck to you!

What personally works for me is group fitness classes...I treat them like appointments I can't break. I decide on Sunday evening which classes work best for my week ahead and I schedule them, no excuses....how do I keep from getting bored? Keep them in rotation and keep them challenging. I used to love Zumba but it became much too easy for me so I was bored and would start thinking about skipping....instead, I took up Boxing. Which I am now obsessed with. Seriously, best workout, goes fast, never boring, always a challenge, makes me sweat and best of all..makes me feel like a total badass...and I mean boxing with gloves/heavy bag at a boxing club, not at my regular gym:) Another way to help you keep from getting bored..set up a very specific goal and train for it. Two years ago I signed up for a half-marathon and spent the three months before training for it..even though I'd never ran a day in my life..I quickly became a runner. A slow one but who cares:)

You can also always take your workout outside to switch it up...ride your bike on a different route, go hiking at a different park, take friends kayaking...go for a walk at dusk or a run at dawn- change up the scenery.

Some of my favorite classes are Spinning, BodyPump, Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, Kickboxing, Boxing, TRX, BodyAttack....you just gotta find what works best for you.

    Good luck on your journey!
  • I have a gym membership, but dont go. I start off going knowing I hate traditional workouts. I would try to do a different cardio workout every day to not have same routine; had a personal trainer, and tried boot camp classes. The boot camp was too hard on my body, personal trainer was good, but was way too expensive and after a while I didnt want to go anymore, but knowing I paid for the time I went every day.Tried zumba it was too hard on my body. Never missed a day. . Then I stop going all together. A lot of workouts aggravate my back and pelvis injury. I tried doing Wii fit and other Wii fitness routines. Do them for a few months but totally bored with it..I started hiking and biking this summer, but slowly didnt want to get out and do it. I had to actually bring bike and workout clothes with me to work to go afterwards.. seeing it on my car made me do it. What can I do to not make me get bored of the routine. Even bought a rowing machine for home and a jump rope but did it a few days and stopped. Years ago, I used to work out 7 days a week and never got bored. I even stopped saying Im going to loose this much weight in a certain amount of time and just do it but i get there and do it faithfully, but dont want to be there and do the workouts. They just bore me to death after I start the workout.. Help.
