Calorie Intake

So, here on MFP, it says I should be eating 1460 calories a day. However, I had an assesment from a trainer who said I should be taking in MORE calories. 2166 to be exact. It seems llike less would be better, but now I am confused. I don't want my body to HOLD on to and store fat. Any input, suggestions or comments? I am trying to lose 95 pounds and I am more committed and focused than I have been in a long time.

What do you have MFP set to (how many pounds a week).

Do you know your BMR and TDEE?

The larger you are the more of a deficit you can have but less isn't always better. I lose better when I eat more.

FIgure out your TDEE and take a cut off that (which it sounds that is probably what your trainer has done).

You want to preserve muscle mass while losing fat and the way to do that is to not have a huge deficit and to lift heavy weights.

If you use MFP's system you wouldn't eat "just" 1460. You would eat 1460 PLUS the amount of calories you burn in exercise. You probably would really eat more like 1800 - 1900 when you add in your workouts.

I have had success with My Fitness Pal, and I have had success with a trainer. Your trainer might be accounting for exercise calories. Remember that if you log exercise into MFP, it will take those calories off those consumed. So I can see where the trainer is getting the numbers from. Record the activity, and see if the numbers balance out.

Many factors... your age, height, weight, activity level, how many pounds you set your goal at.... all contribute to what MFP says you should be eating. You should eat between your BMR and TDEE . Less isn't always better, most of the time eating the right amount is the best way to go.

So, I went to http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ and it says my BMR is 1843 and my TDEE is 2856. MAN!
