30 day shred OR Insanity?

hello everyone :)

bit about me first, im Katie im 5'3 and 12st3lbs. Im aiming to get to around 10st for May 17th when im going on my first holiday abroad.

Ive always been on the large side lol cant ever remember being slim and not overweight. It got worst after having my son whose now 17 months old. This holiday is the perfect reason to get into shape for good! Plus, this website and app is amazing and really helped me stay on track.

My calorie aim is 1,200 a day however i have been known to go upto 1,600 on some days where ive gone a bit wrong. Ive lost 5lbs so far in just under 2 weeks.

http://tinypic.com/r/aky3op/6 <- this is my starting pic and pic taking today so you get an idea of my body shape and size.

I would love to get a flat stomach and get rid of my flabby sides and thighs for the holiday so i can finally wear a bikini lol.

So to get to the point im going to start an intense exercise programe to help get me in the right shape while toning up at the same time! I do not want to lose my boobs and i want to lose my mummy pouch haha.

What would you recomend to get me in good fit lean shape for around middle of may? Insanity or 30 day shred?

Im using youtube to use the videos

thankyou all xx

    Hi ,
good for you for wanting to make a healthy change.
I think it all depends on how fit you are. If you are not a regular when it comes to exercise, you can start out with 30 day shred, its pretty intense but good for everyone because you can do certain things differently to accommodate your level.
Insanity I insane. I believe you should be in decent to good shape, not size, because that does not matter, its how long can you do it for? You need endurance. but by all means if you want to start it that's up to you. Ive been working out hard for the past year, and I am still holding out on insanity because I want to be able to finish it and not give up because it was too hard. And I have done p90x for 45 days.
30 day shred does some good toning, I really liked it.

    Hi

Dont know anything about 30 day shred, but Insanity will do the job for sure! More than weight loss, it will improve your fitness a lot and it's a ton of fun even when it gets hard. You would probably need to eat a fair bit more calories though to fuel your body day after day

    Good luck either way!
  • I can tell you Insanity is very tough. I've been doing it for just about a week now and I am not a fit person. Currently 258lbs and I struggle to do about 50% of the Insanity workouts but I figure over time its going to get easier, and even doing half of the workout is better than nothing.

That being said, it is a GREAT feeling at the end of an Insanity workout, its pretty addictive.

I've done the shred twice now and really enjoy it. I did a few days of insanity and hated it and quit. Workouts are twice as long as shred and I just didn't have time for it. Good luck w whatever you choose! :)

How intense? Do 30 Day Shred in the morning (it's only 20-25mins) and Insanity in the evening. If nothing else, you'll be so knackered, you'll sleep like a log

Good luck whatever you decide (I've done both workouts btw)

depends what you can handle....im doing insanity and it will definitely get you the results...however its not for the faint hearted...and the the workouts only get longer and much harder in month two...saying that...that is when 75% of the weight is loss...

A word of caution if you find other people demonstrating Insanity on youtube: I've seen a few videos of people doing the workouts, and their form is inconsistent at best and terrible at worst! I know Insanity is pretty expensive but good form is so essential in Insanity and I can imagine it would be pretty easy to injure yourself (and also not get full benefit) if you do the exercises based on what people on youtube are doing. It just isn't the same I promise you. Good luck!!

30DS is a great decision. It is difficult but totally doable for someone who has not been active at all beforehand because there are so many modifications you can work with as your abilities change.

I'm doing 30DS daily (halfway through) and do 1.5-2 hours/week of other exercise as well, typically another circuit or more cardio-heavy yoga video. I have to say, I've really seen results in my waist and arms after just 13 days. I'd really recommend it because for folks who haven't been working out (like me) Insanity will likely be too much and possibly discourage you from following through. The key is to find something that you don't dread too much and that don't bore you - Jillian's DVDs go by very quickly and you never do one thing for too long. Personally, I've been enjoying her Yoga Meltdown more than 30DS, but I'm still set on finishing 30DS! I will continue with Yoga Meltdown and/or Ripped in 30 afterwards. There are some 30DS support groups on here, also - fun for posting your progress and seeing other people's results. I've joined the 2013 one.

Thankyou! That's exactly what I thought like I don't want to
Start a programme and not be able to finish. Plus I wasn't very active before I started MFP so after considering it I figured that insanity would probably be too hard to begin with whereas 30 ds would be very challenging but I'd be just about capable of, I hope haha x

Insanity is hard. If you're not already in moderately good shape then I'd say it might be a waste of time . You'd been clutching your knees and wheezing for most of the workout. (Just being honest).

I did Insanity after doing P90x and it was a wake up call. Its difficult. Even the fitness experts in the video take timeout during the routines.

It's great to ear that from real people not just the people marketing the video itself lol
  • I can definitely vouch for the people that are saying that insanity is just that, insanity. im a little bit more than a quarter way done with my second round and it still kicks my *kitten* every time! but when i first started it i weighed around 230 and now im down to 18-185ish area all within 3 months. i have no idea on 30ds but lets just say that whatever you decide to go with itll be a wakeup call regardless and the first 2 weeks are the worst. if you can get through those first 2 weeks you are GOLDEN!
