Sprained hamstrings question

I have apparently sprained hamstrings on both legs a few days ago. I didn't feel anything after the exercise, but the next day they started hurting a lot, to the point that I couldn't sleep at night. Sitting or lying down was very painful, but standing or walking I couldn't feel any pain. Anyway, after 3 days the pain is finally mostly gone. What's the right course of action now? I want to go back to exercising, but I really don't want to injure them again. Should I let them rest and recover for another week? Or should I slowly start exercising?

Lack of stretching and/or over working out muscles are likely to be cause of what you experienced. Its best to fully recover first. When re-starting, make sure you stretch the muscle you will be working on a given day before and after working out. Also, take your time, about 5 minutes on an elliptical to warm up before lifting. Lastly, increase resistance gradually when you can do 10-12 reps in a 3 set per exercise routine very comfortably.
Hope that helps.0 -

This happened to me as well. However, the pain was so intense that I couldn't sleep for two days. It went away after taking aspirins. I rested lower body workouts for 5 days. When I went back I reduced weight and went up gradually. It took me about a week to squat again at my normal weight. Things are pretty normal now and I am lifting heavy again so just give it time. Good luck!0

Great, thanks! One week of rest doesn't sound so bad...0
