Your Hips Don't Lie... and they say you're overweight.

People used to fondly refer to me as "Pancake" for the fact that I always had a flat stomach, but seemed to expand sideways at alarming rates.
Now that I'm losing weight, I can see curves that I never knew I had, and the curves are saying one thing... you still have a far way to go.
Everything I've read says that you can't target an area to lose weight, and I'm sure that's true, but this is my one plea... I don't want bat wings on my hip bones. I never want to be the victim of a muffin top again.
Is there any exercise I can do for my hip area?

Running.
I'm in the same boat as you - I have gained weight in that specific area, it tends to be a popular fat storage area for me . Back when I was running on a regular basis - 2-4x per week, I had MUCH better body composition in the hip / butt / thigh area. I really, really need to get back to running. It's great in so many ways.
Lifting-wise, squats are good.0 -
Thanks, both of you, these help a lot I have already started running every day, it's just I notice all the difference in my lower thighs. But my upper thighs and hips are just being stubborn >:(
I think I'll try out the stepper too, it'll be a good variance into my routine of running, strength training, and the elliptical.0 -
I am also your perfect pear. No stomach only hips and butt. I added weights to my workouts in Feb I have seen a change in my lower half. I don't know if you have access to gym but I do leg press, leg extentions, hack squats, walking lunges, static lunges, and some hamstring machines. I also run a couple times a week. I work quads once a week and hamstrings once a week.
In the beginning I was very hestitant about working weights because the last thing my lower half needed was extra weight. But the opposite has happened.0 -
Without trying to be rude, your post reads like this in my mind's eye:
"I know you can't spot reduce but how can I spot reduce my hips."
If you've lost a lot of fat from this specific area of your body, the way to maintain the loss is to keep your nutrition in check permanently. If you've got a ways to go for this specific area to be ideal (given your build), you need to keep proper nutrition and a calorie deficit in place until the fat in this specific area leaves you, which will happen in a genetically predetermined pattern.
Very generally speaking... first on is typically last off, meaning your problem areas are generally the ones who will give you the most grief while losing fat.
I'm doubtful that I'm helping... but your question sort of confused me.0 -
There is really no way to "spot reduce" - but as you lose weight your body will get smaller. We are still hindered by our genetics though, so keep that in mind and don't get too frustrated!0
