i'm curious, i need to lose 30 or so more pounds to get to my goal weight and usually at the gym i'm on either the elliptical/treadmill/stair climber/bike.
should i start toning now before i lose all the weight or should i wait to lose some more first?
would toning help me lose weight?
(oops, i think i might have posted this in the wrong sections. sorry!)

Toning is about the equivalent as reducing your body fat.0

Don't wait, for many reasons.
1: I waited, and ended up, "skinny fat" Ya see, when you go into a deficit, your body burns fat AND muscle. So, if you're not building muscle, your losing it. So yeah, you'll lose weight, but you'll look flabby and you'll still have muffin top, and you won't be happy with it. I wish I had known it.
2: You want to get into the habit of working out anyway. Learn now, and you won't have to later.0 -
What Katelin said. Start lifting weights now - and lift heavy. You want to shift your body composition more than lose weight. Focus more on your body fat % than what the scale says, and keep in mind that with proper strength training your goal weight is probably more like 20 lbs away.0

Lift weights...like yesterday! Seriously. Lift weights..NOW! You will not regret it. I do no cardio at all. None. Yet People ask me all the time if I run...nope. Weights alone can and will cause great change.0

Pretty much "toning" just means lowering body fat percentage to show underlying muscle.
You should start lifting... and heavy. trust me. Been there, got skinny fat, didn't want to hear anyone's advice otherwise... and i've been paying for it over 8 months now.
The moment you add resistance training in, the sooner you'll notice changes in your body. May not be "scale" changes, but definitely changes in the way you look!0 -
well, toning is better than losing weight When you tone as I understand it you're more reshaping your body and building muscle in places where fat used to be.0

Do it now.. no reason to wait.0

What is it that you think "toning" means?0
