I don't really like yogurt but I'm trying all the light flavors and trying to teach myself to like it because everyone says how good it is for you... I had red velvet cake today and it wasn't bad but then I looked at the ingredients and it has high fructose corn syrup and aspertame!! this is not good, right? Just wondering everyone's thoughts on the stuff. With those yucky ingredients, I might just not even bother trying to like the taste of it.

Definitely not good. I stopped eating the Yoplait Light because of this even though I love them and they've helped me lose weight in the past. Get some plain yogurt and flavor with honey and fruits (any kind of berry will be sweetest and have great antioxidants and good for weight loss).

I like the chobani yogurt. It's greek yogurt and you can get it fat free or low fat in lots of flavors. It has a ton of protein and no fake sugars. The 6 oz cup has 120 caloris and 16 grams of protein! I add some dried fruit to it or some honey because I like it a little sweeter.

You could try Stonyfield organic yogurts as well. They are all natural and available in Fat Free and Low Fat. They may just be a New England thing though.
  • I agree - Yoplait isn't the ideal yogurt brand because it has so many sugars and ingredients. Look at the ingredients... the less the better (and knowing what they are is helpful too). Go to a Whole Foods/Sprouts/Sunflower Market/whatever and look at their yogurts. Greek yogurt (Fage) and Icelandic yogurt (Siggi's) are the best in... They're tart so you may not like it, and they tend to be more expensive so I only buy them when they're on sale. They both also have around 14-16g of protein and less than 10g of sugar (depending on what flavor you get). :) But honestly, if you don't like yogurt and can't develop the acquired taste, maybe you should eat something else, such as oatmeal in place.
  • Another good thing to use is Agave Nectar....it is a lot like honey but less sugar!!

Trader Joe's has some good choices in yogurt. I buy the regular nonfat flavors, but they have Greek yogurts which are really good. They also have Fage, which is outstanding plain yogurt...you can flavor it with whatever suits you.

I'm a big fan of Greek yogurts too. I don't really like regular yogurt because of the texture, but Greek yogurt is naturally thicker so it works for me. Like the others said, lots of protein and relatively (and naturally) low in fat. It's definitely worth giving a try.

You are absolutely right that high fructose corn syrup is bad bad bad for you. There are many natural or organic brands of yogurts that I would suggest you try, according to the budget. In general, Yoplait and some other yogurts are doing more harm than good for your body... So, please pay attention to the ingredients. Feel free to send me a question or two if you have about the ingredients, I have self-studied nutrition quite for a few years now. :-) Stay healthy!
  • I personally like the light and fit yogurt. It has like 60cals and tastes really good, the vanilla almost tastes like pudding but my favorite is strawberry
