So this should be under the fitness and excersise questions but oops. But I'm just wondering if any one roller blades for cardio excersise? Me and my sis did over the weekend for the first time since we were like 12 lol and it was so much fun! And in 30 minutes I burned 170 cals. Just curious if anyone does this regulary and how it's working out for ya.

I just got my new roller blades in the mail today Im soooo excited to try them out. HOWEVER I usually roller skate once a week and in an hr session I burn like 700 cals using my HRM! SOOO I bet u actually burned more than the 170!! Me and a co worker are gonna start roller blading on our lunch break. I had to wait to get my blades in cause my reg skates cost me a pretty penny and I dont want to have to pay to get my wheels redone every time I skate outside. I <3 IT!!! Oh my kids 10 and 5 love to skate also so it is something we do as a family

    I LOOOOVEEEE ROLLER BLADING!!!!
It is SO much fun and such a great workout. I love it because you don't feel like you are sweating or working out while you are doing it. I usually go for about 40-60 min and when I take the blades off my legs are soo sore and I am so sweaty. When it is a warm day and I don't feel like going to the gym, I love going rollerblading!

    Ooo Me Too!

I love Rollerblading. There is a 4.5 mile track i go to and it's the most amazing, fun exercise. I normaly go around 2x and I burn no less that 600 in 50 minutes. If it's windy out you get even more of a workout

    Have fun!

Erica, you definitely burned more than 170!!! I used Self.com's calculator to put an estimated weight in for you (130?) and 30 minutes and it says you should have burned about 370 calories. I would log 300 just to be safe.

I got some, but they make my feet hurt :o( Is this normal when you first start out? Im going to give them another try tomorrow but the soles of my feet were stinging the first couple of times :o(

Is this normal? They are the correct size.

I don't know how to roller blade or skate but I want to learn. I hope it's not too hard to pick up! I would hate to buy skates and not get the hang of it! I'm trying to think of more activities my boyfriend and I can do together and burn calories at the same time. I'm glad you posted this- thanks! :)

If you are serious about it, you have to stop calling it "roller blading" and call it "inline skating"

I haven't done it recently, but a few years back, I joined a skating club. I did 2 marathons (27 miles each) one summer. It was killer awesome!! I really miss it. I've been wanting to go back to my club so badly.. or join an inline speed skating team. I just always feel a little guilty because I already spend too many hours at work and then time at the gym and taekwondo classes. My poor husband is stuck babysitting for 12 hours or more a day.

I know anytime my feet hurt in ice skates, I either need a bigger size or to tie them tighter.

Wear very thick wool socks, like Smart Wool. It will help a lot to keep your feet dry and blister/pain free. Also, when you are new at it, you might be clenching your feet which can hurt the arches of your feet.

also if u dont have the thick wool socks u can just double up and wear 2 pairs of ur reg socks. When I was a teenager I would go skating every fri & sat night for 6 hr each night and wearing an extra pair of socks is what kept me from getting blisters or super sore feet.

Kimberly7987: Do u guys have a local roller skating rink you can go to try it out plus they usually rent skates so u dont have to worry about buying a pair and not liking it.

I was doing beginner ice skating a couple times a week...until I went to the Emergency Room one night.

That was the end of my professional hockey career lol
