Zumba lovers out there?

I have always wanted to take a Zumba class and finally worked up the nerve to join a gym last week. I am completely hooked! I almost had a heart attack after walking into the class with wall to wall mirrors but it was so much fun! My goal is to go 3-4 times a week.
Are there any success stories with Zumba out there? Or people that laugh the whole time because they are probably just as awkward and uncoordinated as myself?

I love zumba. I started doing it in April. Two months after I started on MFP. I am down amlost 48 pounds and went from a tight size 20 to a size 12. (Admit its tight). I go three times a week a week but used to go 4.0

I love Zumba! Zumba was the only reason I got back into fitness. I was a tennis player in college and also participated in other sports so when my friend invited me I was like "yeah, okay this is going to be stupid" wow was I wrong. I think that the biggest thing that I notice is...you get what you give. If you have fun with it and really Move you will be tired and burn tons of calories. If you are timid and barely follow along...just shuffling around...it will probably seem lame and not make you tired. I finally hit a point in my life where I don't care what people think about me at all, I dance and I have a great time and I look forward to my 4 times a week calorie burn fest. Welcome to the Zumba party and have fun!0

That is so great!! Did you incorporate strength training along with the Zumba? I was planning on starting the 30 day shred on top of the Zumba classes.0

Hmm I should get the dvds for days I cant make it to the gym. oh my goodness, I couldnt imagine adding toning sticks on top of the moves haha. Go for it! I'm dying halfway through class without any weights. Maybe i'll work my way up to that0 -
Hardore Zumba chick here! I go 4 times a week. It is so fun! And once you learn the choreography and basic steps you will become less awkward. The best part is knowing everyone is there to shake their booty and have fun exercising. No one is judging your dance skills. But I agree, the mirrors can be a bit distracting lol0

I tried zumba for the 1st time today....on the Wii. It was so much fun plus I didn't have to worry that I looked like I was having a seizure lol. I'm gonna do this as often as I can!!0

I love Zumba. I started going weekly in August. I do a gym workout 3 days per week, water jogging 2 days per week, and Zumba on Fridays. I'm easily bored so mixing things up this way is keeping me interested and having fun, and it's working! I felt extremely awkward at first, but getting more confident in my Zumba skills now lol0

I would keep doing it if it was available at my gym... I may get back to it once I find a place to go to from time to time..
I prefer it much more over any other cardio... it is fun and get your body worked completely0 -
I got the DVDs cause I don't like evening classes but the Zumba Core for the Wii is so much better than the DVDs..more variety and better music.. I Zumba almost everyday if I can. Depending on the routine my HRM says I burn between 430 and 615 calories between 45-60 min.0

I love Zumba!
I think I look like a dancing elephant while I'm doing it, but I love it anyway!0 -
I'm a Zumba lover and instructor, so I hear & see success stories all the time. The more you go, the better you'll get, and the more you'll shake. Lol you can burn anywhere from 500-1000 calories, and have fun the whole time ????. Keep it up and Enjoy!0

I started with Zumba on Feb 8th 2012. I ONLY do the DVDs at home & refuse a gym setting. Says it all0

How do you record Zumba on the exercise part of MFP? Do you record under dancing or Aerobics?0

How do you record Zumba on the exercise part of MFP? Do you record under dancing or Aerobics?
I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking of doing that dance option under cardio and readjusting the calories by using zumbacalculator.com. I am loving all the Zumba love! For me I hate running( a mindest I need to change) so a fun cardio is a must for me!0 -
I've been doing Zumba for 2 years and it's helped me lose my 80 lbs. I love, love, love it!
For those asking how to record, I used to record it under aerobics before I got a heart rate monitor and entered it as its own line item. Average burn for me, 5'7" and between 170 & 190 lbs, is around 240 calories for 30 minutes. The Aerobics listing is pretty close to this.0 -

I've been putting it under aerobic exercise general, but I felt that it was indicating that I burned more calories than I actually did. However, I wore my heart rate monitor to my last class on Saturday and it stated that I actually burned more...close to 900 calories in the 65 minutes. I'm so hooked on Zumba and have been doing it for past few months with some friends. It's so fun and doesn't feel like "running" workout which I'm also not a fan of.0 -
I do it under both. The majority of the class mins, I'll label as "Dancing" and about 15-25% I'll label as Aerobic or even high intensity aerobics, depending on the class/instructor because all Zumba classes are definitely NOT created equally. Personally, I like to underestimate rather than over estimate cals burned, so I find that combo of calculating to be good. Absolute best way, of course, is invest in a heart rate monitor/cal counter watch (which I still need to do myself!)0

I am a Zumba lover and instructor! Zumba is great because it really is for anybody. It doesn't matter where you are physically because you do it at your own pace. So many people worry they will look stupid because they aren't doing the moves right, but that is so not true! It isn't about doing the exact movements it is about moving and having fun while you do it. That's why it is called a Zumba Party! I love that my students put their own moves into the songs and go with it!!0

I got the dvd's and started doing them at home about a month and a half ago- no pics on hand but zumba has definately trimmed my waist. Keep with it, the first few days I was all over the place but just last week my husband walked in planted himself firmly on the couch and watched the whole 45mins (think he likes the a** shaking most-lol!) At the end he called me his zumba queen!!0

I love Zumba and try to get to at least two classes a week at my gym. Don't worry about feeling out of time, it doesn't matter, just shake your booty and have fun. I have a emotionally difficult job and it is so good for getting rid of stress and releasing happy endorphins. When I can't get to the gym I do Zumba Rush on the X box with Kinnect. You get great feedback on how well you do the moves and you see a thermo image of yourself on the screen and it has a tutorial.
I have lost nearly 40lbs since last May and I would say 60- 80 percent of my exercise has been Zumba. I also notice I have a waist for the first time ever. You might want to do extra stuff for your arms. I have noticed mine are not toning up by Zumba alone.0 -
I love Zumba. The music and the fun make the class go by so quickly. You are exhausted at the end but you leave with a smile on your face.
My local class stopped and I do not belong to a gym and with my work schedule, it would be hard to commit to a class at a gym so im going to buy the new Exhilerate with toning sticks this week. I have tried a couple of the Zumba videos on Youtube and that does ok for now. We also have Zumba for the Wii but only my daughter has used it. Guess that is next for me0 -
Hi I was wondering what category would Zumba come under? Dancing aerobic or Dancing fast?
Many thanks :-)0 -
thanks all - that calculator is pretty good too!0

I'm a hardcore Zumba lover. I go four days a week and end it all with two hours of Zumba. I will tell you that Zumba has been life changing for me. In the first month and a half I have lost 17 pounds and have toned every part of my body. I have a couple of awesome instructors, who have so many songs and dances routines that it never gets old.
I love the fact that in all of the classes there are people of all fitness levels, body shapes and ages having a great time and getting fit at the same time.
I started off at 277 and burn upwards of 850 calories per workout. For those who want to log the calories, you will need to make a Zumba option. For an accurate calorie burn, you will need to wear a pedometer and have it calculate your burn for you. I completely underestimated the amount of calories I was burning in one class. In my hour Zumba marathon. I did 5.5 miles, 11600 steps and burned 1370 calories and had the best time of my life.
I do own the Exhilerate set on DVD but never use it as I go to class.0 -
In my opinion zumba is the most fun way to exercise out there...plus it's a great way to get toned! I do zumba twice a week, but if my schedule would allow it I would do it a lot more0

Are there any good videos out there with current music? I have the Zumba Exhilerate, and go the gym three times a week but looking to change it up a little.0

I've heard nothing but positive things about Zumba, so I'm looking into seeing if there's any classes near me. Can someone please advise on how much the class would cost? Does it depend on how many times a week you go? Does it vary from location to location? I don't want to break the bank, but I want to find something fun & that will keep my interest!0

I would suggest going to www.zumba.com. At the website you can search for instructors in your area and then you can research the pricing for the classes. If you can, I would highly suggest going to a live class. You can get the full effect of the class and also the energy and encouragement from your fellow Zumba divas. Its one of the best workouts out there and its a sneaky way of getting fit.0
