Discouraged

I've almost gained a pound back since I last weighed myself. I don't understand, I've been under my calorie goal each day. I have an open diary, does anyone wanna throw some advice? I'm feeling pretty discouraged :(

Your weight fluctuates daily. In any given day there can be a five pound difference. If you have been eating right and logging correctly then you have not truly gained any fat. Drink plenty of water to flush out any water you may be retaining due to salt.

Weight fluctuates depending on a number of things. If you ate a lot of sodium -- say, from your Subway sandwich yesterday -- you could be retaining water. The same if you recently started a new exercise regime. Furthermore, your weight varies according to the contents of your digestive tract (i.e. how recently you've eaten, and how recently you've pooped).

These things can easily cause fluctuations of 5 lbs, which is frustrating when one week's loss is only 1 lb.

Oh dear. You're eating a dangerously low amount of food.

I'm no expert on food so I'm not going to even look at your diary, but I did look at your ticker and saw how much weight you've lost and that is awesome!! There are so many little things that can make a number not as low as you want it on one specific day, don't get discouraged. You obviously know how to lose weight, until you see a trend or a true plateau I wouldn't stress about one pound - concentrate on the 57 you've lost and not beat yourself up over one you've gained!

You're eating to few calories in my opinion. Your body needs fuel to burn and instead you may be storing what few calories you are bringing in. I know that you may feel an easy way to lose weight would be to eat under the amount of calories that is suggested for you. That is not the case, eat your calories, workout and remember that if you are not seeing numbers on the scale reduce, you may be losing inches or gaining muscle. Good luck!

    PS
You may be hitting a plateau in weight loss considering the amount of weight that you have already lost. I would look into finding some plateau busters, you may have to up the amount of time put into workouts to kick your metabolism back into gear.

I recognize you. What happened to your other account where you swore by eating so little and exercising it all off as the ONLY way to lose weight?

From what I can see, you are eating too few calories.

Try this to figure out your TDEE and your BMR- you should eat between it.

Overall, you need to eat more.

Wow - your intake is extremely low! Too low, IMHO. Try eating more. You're also not tracking sodium, which can easily add a pound or two.

You really need to eat more food. You could be doing more harm than good/. Try adding some protein to your meals - you will really help your body.

Try eating more. Your diary says you eat around 800 calories a day. That's not a lot of food, at all.

I agree with all the posts before me!

Eating more helps, especially since you've already lost a lot of weight (congrats on that!).

Try eating all your calories and not having as much of a deficit.

    EAT MORE!!!

Also, eat more protein. You want to lose fat, not muscle.

What food you are eating is rabbit food. :)

You're only eating around 850 calories a day?! I would be starving!! Ditto on the eat more.
  • You def need to eat more. It is not recommended males go under 1500 cals a day. You should try recalculating your daily cal intake limit. NOT using the MFP calculator though. Somewhere in the forums it explains this correctly.

Weight yourself same time everyday. For me it is first thing in the morning... because my morning weight and afternoon look different from one another. So, be consistent with weighing times.

EAT! Your brain alone needs close to 500 calories daily just to maintain function. Do you really care so little about yourself? >.<
  • Your food choices are excellent! Losst of greens, veggies and fruits. But your caloric intake is very low. Not to mention your protein intake!!!! Your body needs protein to build lean muscle mass and lean muscle mass burns fat! Even if you dont want to eat meat, you need to incorporate some eggs, fish, nuts or beans into your diet to bring up your protein intake. You could also try protein shakes, but watch the sugar grams. Commercially prepared shakes are sometimes very high in carbs/sugars. EAS makes a pretty clean powder that is not that expensive and lower in sugars. I know it is hard to think that eating more will make you weigh less, but your body needs fuel. As a man it needs more fuel and more protein. Unless your aim is to look anorexic? Women prefer some meat on the bones. Not fat, meat. And like I said, lean muscle burns fat. : )

    A) don't be weighing every day. That is sure to lead to you being discouraged. B) Eat more. C) Check out my Facebook page facebook.com/motivatormandy because I've typed all my rambling down once instead of working my fingers to the bone typing the same thing 100 times.

Incorporate protein and complex carbs in your meals & eat more. Also it is perfectly normal for your weight to fluctuate. Dont stress! I barely ever look at my scale. Its a waste of my time, and it can be discouraging. You could be losing inches, but on the scale it could look the exact same.

Weight loss doesn't equate to eating too little. The body is smarter than that.

Thank you everyone for the great advice. I guess the solution is to eat more a day. It's because I feel like I'm overeating everyday that I start to think, "maybe I should eat less just in case I'm actually eating more than what I actually logged in." I'm going to try to be as accurate as possible and eat more today, I'm hoping that this is the solution. I'm also gonna try to hide my scale for a while.

If you want, check out this link by MFPer Heliotsdan - It'll give you a detailed walkthrough (with pictures even) on finding your TDEE and calculating what you should be eating.

Also, if you are worried about the calorie intake, I also suggest you read this thread that has numerous people who met their goals and are maintaining. Some for years and they also provide their calorie intake and how often they work out.

For those eating below their BMR, not going to preach at you, but here's something you might want to look at:

For the whole eating under a 1000 calories, look...you are going to do what you want but check out the link below at some of the stories of people who thought it was okay (especially because they weren't "feeling" hungry a lot of times) but ended up regretting it. These links are just information to give you options. I'm not preaching or trying to tell you or anyone what is the "right way"...just throwing some info your way is all.

Yes, this is can all be overwhelming and complicated , but you are more than welcome to ask questions on the post.
One of the things that I have found that has been one of the best methods for me to get fit is to understand fitness. To understand where all these figures, etc come from.

The good thing is once you get the hang of it - it is something you'll be aware of constantly and you'll get a better understanding about your eating habits.

So I HIGHLY suggest making the effort to take every chance to educate yourself. Even if you don't end up going with any of these methods, calculations, etc - at least you understand what they are, where others are coming from, and maybe they will still be able to help you figure out what is best for you.
