workout help

A newbie question...I posted this on the fitness board, but I think this might be a better place to ask. Last night I read a lot here about why you should strength train. And I found the "BeFit in 90" videos on youtube. I just completed the Day 1 workout. Aside from the horrific realization of just how out of shape I am, I have no idea how to log the workout. Anyone done these videos before? THANKS!

Wear an HRM to get a general idea of your burn, though it's not accurate for strength. Or, just use mfp's suggestion for strength training. I don't recommend eating back the calories anyway, so it really doesn't matter for most people.

I just give myself 30 calories for strength (I usually do 60min strength 20min cardio on lift days) and then add that to what my HRM says I burned during the cardio portion of my workout. Weight training isn't a big burner like cardio, but it does build lean muscle mass, which burns more calories at rest.

Alas, I don't have a working HRM. (side note: if anyone knows how to fix my Polar F6, that would be stellar!) I am crazy sore (because, again, I am horribly out of shape) and I was breathing hard enough that I couldn't speak for most of it. Unless I caught my breath and hurled obscenities at the skinny people who were doing it all with ease. But I'm guessing swearing doesn't actually burn calories. :)

Is it the battery of your Polar? I have an FT40 and I've had to replace the battery twice, but it always comes right back to life after! Just take it to a watch / jewelry repair.

I thought so - I've replaced it myself before - but replacing the battery caused the entire thing to go dark. When I put the old battery back, it's still dark. So sad...

There is the option to put strength training in the cardio section or you can pick circuit training. I've never done the videos so I don't know what the routines include put I'd choose either of those w/o having a HRM.
