Question for Medical Professionals

Prefacing this by saying it's not about me. If a doctor tells you to call back for results of a test (biopsy), does that mean it is more likely that the doctor doesn't think it is something serious, or is this just standard practice? Personal doctor preference?

I guess I'd like to know that if a path report came back positive for something, is it more likely that the doc would call the patient back, or wait for the patient to call as instructed? Just looking for personal experiences - I know every doctor/doctor's office is different.

    I work in a medical office, the reason we ask you to call back is that sometimes the lab takes too long to send back the results and we have to call them. We do alot of labs every day and can not remember them all. Your phone call is a reminder to us that if we have not gotten your lab back that we need to call. I would also like to say that we call every patient back with results normal or abnormal. Hope this helps.
