Are calories more important than what you actually eat?

So, my calorie goal each day is 1250. I'm wondering if i have to cut back on carbs and fat and eat more protein, veggies, fruits, etc. or can I eat whatever I want as long as I don't go over my calorie limit. With exercise of course. Thanks!

Not in my opinion, though it depends on if you are in this for overall health or just losing lbs.0

5 candy bars vs. 3 balanced meals is more important, don't you think?0

It's not an either/or type of scenario. They are both important.0

Yes someday I feel guilty because it says I am under my calories but I know its been junk food! I agree Its important to get your calories from healthy choices! You can lose by eating anything if you take in less than you use but I dont think you will be heathly in the end if you dont get the right balance or nutrients.0 -
For weight loss alone, it doesn't matter (for most people) where the calories come from.
However, you probably also want to be healthy, yes? That will be much more difficult if you're eating only junk. Your body will thank you for whole grains, lean protein, healthy fats, fruits, and veggies.0 -

Eating junk food doesn't work for me. I can eat a whole bag of chips (not the single serving size, the big bag) and still be hungry. I can eat 1 cup of broccoli and have my hunger satisfied for hours.
What you eat in what ratio is up to you, there is no magic formula. It depends on you, your goals, your activity level. I believe if you make healthier choices you will lose weight faster, retain more muscle, and be better off in the long run. The more healthy food I eat the better healthy food tastes to me. I find myself craving oven roasted broccoli as a late night snack instead of a bowl of ice cream. To me that's a good thing.0
