Women - THAT time of month

I'm wondering if anybody else gets this at THAT time of month...

I've noticed that I have a hugely increased appetite. I try my best to fill up on fruit and vegetables but sometime I stay hungry after eating, I also notice I get a bit shakey from my blood sugars dropping. Is this common?

It seems my energy levels drop a bit and I really struggle with vigorus exercise. Like if I go for a run I can only manage half the amount of time that I usually can do before I'm fatigued. This normally starts a few days before and runs up until the last day of "the flow".

Does anyone else experience similar problems, and if so, how do you deal with it?

I have similar symptoms. My appetite increases about a week before and I want sweets and carbs. I try to eat fruit but that doesn't do the job. And I want more carbs. Pasta, cereals etc. I also get very tired the day before it starts and the first few days I am very fatigued and those first 2 days I do not exercise. I know they say you feel better after but sometimes I just dont.

I'm in the middle of it right now. All I want to do is eat. Luckily with the pill I'm currently on, I normally only have one or two days a month where I'm completely starving, so I give myself a little more leeway with the calories on those days (I am eating just below my TDEE today) and try to focus on getting plenty of protein to fill myself up. I actually had a big incident of shakiness and getting a little dizzy this morning, but a snack helped me out.

I listen to my body with the energy levels and fatigue. If I can push through, I normally do feel better, but sometimes I'm just not up for something strenuous. That's especially true on the days I have cramps and am in major pain. If nothing else, I try to go for a long walk to get myself moving.
  • Yeah, I get similar problems, massive cravings and general tiredness along with moodiness. The best cure seems to be extra hard exercise for all 3.

I do get more hungry when TOM is here, but I still work out and push through. Stick to eating healthy. It's hard not to crave that yummy chocolate, but its rewarding when you know you chose something else!
  • I find that I have insane cravings, am moody, and feel like a slug. I never want to work out when I'm on my period and would rather stay in bed.

Are you on birth control because that has helped me target the exact days I am hungry. The 2 days before I start I become a bottomless pit for sugar and carbs then it subsides after. I allow myself a break during that time but I dont go crazy either. I think the best thing you can do is listen to your body and figure out the exact days that you are overwhelmed so you can plan for them. Dont eat if you are bored or emotional but if you are craving sugar or fat and are truly showing signs of hunger, I say do it. Well, that's what I do and its worked for me. Its all about management and moderation.

As far as energy, are you taking any vitamins? Creatine, vitamin D, multivitamin, fish oil and Iron are the ones I take. They seem to be working really well and I don't have as many dips in my energy anymore. I do have bad days but its not linked with my actual period. I go to photo-therapy once a week too which helps with seasonal depression as well as my psoriasis. I think that also helps me have energy that most people dont during the winter

Same with me. I'm on day 1 of mine, and couldn't get through my leg/glutes circuit. I find on my 2 heaviest days, working out doesn't make me feel better (then again nothing but Midol makes me feel better), but on my lighter days exercise does help and I'm not as weak. I just try to eat a bit cleaner the days I'm off, and reschedule my rest days.
