60+ male with desk job wondering if I'm on track.

A couple of weeks into calorie counting. Lost 3 lbs in first few days and oscillating between 4 and 5 for last week or so. Set up for a pound a week so can't really say I'm behind schedule, but thought I'd try the psychological support of the forums just to keep going. I did have a professional dinner one night and one day I simply lost control, but other than that have kept my intake and excercise to the plan. Love to hear the experiences others have had weeks 3 through 10. Was a pound a week sustainable?

During my first month of counting calories, I had lost about a pound per week. In the second month, I didn't lose any at all... Then my goals shifted and changed and I'm actually wanting to gain weight. With my metabolism altered, I found that it was quite harder, personally, to gain weight! I'm into my 100th day of counting calories and I'm at a -3 pound difference from when I started (mind you, I'm wanting to gain weight since a month ago).

yasavi, good luck to you. I too was underweight in my 20s. I was a runner. I maintained good weight through my 40s and then gradually started to add fat (the worst kind, i.e. around the middle). Now I need to get back to my mid 40s weight and stay there. Guess its a good thing that life has its phases.

hi. yeah it is but you have to be careful. I went strong for my first 12 weeks then stalled because my calories were too low. just log ALL your food and try to excersice 3 or 4 times a week, especially since you have a desk job. You will find plenty of help here....just lake it slowly.

Welcome! I've been here about 3 months and have been losing about a pound a week. I didn't lose in the first 2 weeks, then dropped 2 lbs, and have had a fairly steady drop since. I've tried to stick to the calorie count and exercise 3-4 times a week.
I'm a bit surprised at the consistency, to be honest.

At our age it's more challenging. You need to go "all in".
    I wish you much success!

I put my dad (58) on a program and logged his stuff for him..he's got some health issues that could be resolved with some weight loss.

You're on the right track. Sometimes the weight doesn't come off in one week..if you're looking for -1 every friday, you're going to be disappointed...look at it more like..is the scale going in the right direction, over this month? how much did I lose, then divide by 4...ergo..your pound/week. sometimes you lose zero, sometimes you gain 3, sometimes u lose 3...but at the end, a negative number around 4 will be a great marker for your progress.

That being said....the simple act of counting, sets you on the right path!

bova... Many thanks. I've tried a few times before (even using fitday) and lost 3-5 lbs then lost focus. Your are undoubtedly right. The trick is to stick with it.

Three months. I am impressed and hope to do the same. Won't be showing off at the beach, but it would make for a much more positive Springtime annual physical, the weight combined with last year's heath issues hopefully behind me.
