Newbie--putting it all together...

Hi all,
I'm a newbie here, but not really a newbie to the whole food-tracking scene. I've always found that I start to lose weight when I'm tracking my food and exercise--but I've never stuck with it long enough to lose a significant amount of weight.
I'm 5'2", and weigh 157 lbs. right now. My goal is to reach 127. I'm not trying to lose weight quickly--I'm aiming for slow, steady loss of .5-1 lb per week. I've maintained my weight for the last year, so I know what to do to stay where I am (I know that will be half the battle once I reach my goal weight). I just need to figure out how to put it all together to get the weight loss happening.
I live in the Pacific NW with my husband of almost two years. I'm working full time and also going school part-time to get my initial teaching license in Elementary Education. I love reading, hiking, camping, cooking (esp. Mexican and Thai), and I'm trying to learn to love jogging!

FIrst, wecome to MFP. Sounds like you already have the hardest part figured out. You maintained your weight for the past year.
For me, the most important step in losing weight is tracking ALL of the food you put into your mouth. My iPod / iTouch has made tracking my food a whole lot easier since I have it with me all of the time. It was cheaper than a month of Nutri-System.
If you can maintain a 250 - 500 calorie deficit every day whether by eating less or exercising more, you should be able to reach your goal. And if you have a special occasion or occasional decadent treat, don't freak out, just get back on it the next day. Everyone deserves a treat from time to time.
Oh, and don't obsess with your scale. While I weigh myself everyday, I look at the bigger picture and compare weeks and months.
Good luck to you and I'm sure MFP will help you to obtain your goal. : )0 -
Hi, I started tracking today and hope I can stick to it. I also join the gym today another step toward my weight loss goal. I am scare to get on the scale for my initial weight, but i think it about 180lbs My goal is 140lbs. I am hoping by tracking and posting I will be able to lose the weight. I am taking it slow at my pace, no rush. Just want to do it right.. lose the weight and maintain it.
I am using this because it is cheaper that weight watchers and the others and we can do the same thing on all of them.0
