Has anyone on here heard of this? Tried it? How did it work for you? A friend of mine is doing it and I am curious.

The 18th day is a *****.
Diets are temporary weight loss for 90% of the population. It takes an actual lifestyle change to keep the weight off for good.

I'm just going to copy & paste my previous reply for this type of thread:
These threads are running rampant today.
Look, most people on here have had success with maintaining a calorie deficit and putting in some old fashioned plain hard work (exercise). It works. It does. Calorie deficit = weight loss. You don't have to adhere to any other rules but that. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.0 -

^^^ That all day long0 -
Never heard of it!0

Like any other diet, it'll work while you're on it. I've known people who have lost 10 pounds in the first 5 days (all water weight of course), but the minute they don't adhere to it, the weight comes right back.
The ONLY time I would recommend this is when you need to fit in a dress for an event or something. And plan to regain the weight afterwards. Not something I'd be able to stick to long term.0 -
What happens on Day 18?0

I think its a great idea!! After 17 days your body will be perfect and you will never have to gain weight again! Your life will be perfect!!
Is this what you expect to hear? Eat less and move more. Simple as that.0 -
You probably burn an average of 2,000 calories a day. There are 3,500 calories in a pound of fat.
If you ate nothing for 17 days, you would lose at most 9 pounds. (17 * 2,000 = 34,000)
Assuming you didn't die of starvation.
Don't do it, your friend is silly.0 -
Thanks everyone. Kind of my thoughts too. It sounded far fetched at best. I have been on here for a bit now and doing well minus the holidays set back. Was just curious about it because I had never heard of it. From what she said it sounded like shortened periods of just healthy eating. No plans to try. I have a specific diet due to a medical issue just curious.0

Good woman! Tell her what you heard here too.
Everyone would get so much further cutting out 100 calories they didn't need each day for a year (36,500 cals or 10lbs) rather than starving to death for two weeks straight.0 -
I sure will tell her. It's kind of a given that you will gain all the weight back once you stop the diet. Silly silly people! LOL! I love MFP! It has changed my life! Helped my RHG and helped me lose weight and get rid of back pain by getting moving and taking some weight off. I could use some getting back into moving but have been fighting winter time sickness on and off for over a month. I can't wait until the snow is off the ground and it's warm and I can get outside again.0

make it 14 days and by George I'll slap my cash down on the barrel head!0

So, what's your plan for day 18 and beyond?0
