I am sorry to post such a stupid question, but I just bought a digital steamer and it didn't have a user manual with it. Does anyone know how long to steam different kinds of vegetables?:explode:

I don't like my veggies soggy so, I steam my asparagus for no more than 3 mins then toss them in an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Same for broccoli. However, there are lots and lots of vegetables out there and cooking varies depending on what you are making. What are you favorites?0

bit of a different response but so often nowadays you can look up your model number and Google it and find a manual to download and get ideas on your own model. I've only used a simple bamboo basket or metal steamer, never got any more high tech than that on veggie, plus I like them raw better

I steam for only a minute or 2 depending. Basically I just steam them until they turn bright green (I mostly steam green vegetables) and then remove immediately because they will continue to cook even off the heat. The denser veggies such as zucchini, broccoli, green beans and asparagus take approx. 2 minutes while the leafy greens take much less time. Again, I tend to just eyeball the color rather than use a timer. I have a plain bamboo steamer that my husband insists makes the veggies taste better, so hey, if he is excited to eat more veggies than I'm not about to upgrade the gear!0

I do what xonophone does and when veggies turn brighter that's enough for me. I like them warm but almost raw, actually.0
