    asics. gel ones.

best bet is to get your gait analysed, so you can make a more informed decision about which shoes.

    EDIT: More about gait analysis;

Unfortunately, I'm still trying to find the magic shoe for myself, so I'm not one to offer suggestions.

To find the best shoe for your needs, go to a running store with trained specialist. Going into Kohl's or Sears and picking out whichever one looks best will get you absolutely nowhere. Have a shoe salesperson examine how you walk. They'll offer suggestions based on what they see. I think some stores may even have a treadmill or something you walk on that can calculate your pressure points, etc.

    Happy shoe shopping :)

at least for your first pair you need to go to a dedicated running store and either have them analyse an old worn pair of shoes you ran in or have them assess your gait. Then they will state what type of shoe design is best for you - then from there you can go and price shop different brands or stores.

I am an Asics gel junkie.
  • Everyone is going to be different - go to a show store and get fitted. It's the only way to get in a shoe that is properly suited for you specific needs.

As everyone has said, get the shoe that fits you the best.
I love Saucony shoes myself. I rotate through a few different pairs of the Kinvara 3's and Cortana's. They seem to be well made and hold up well to trail conditions

Best running was barefoot on a beach with waves lapping up and down!

Merrell Barefoot Run Dash Glove. Minimalist shoes can be great for the right person. They do take their own train up time, but since making the switch, I prefer them to all other shoes, not just for running. I have a naturally short gate and the running style fits me well.

But I agree with the others. Go to an actual running shoe store and get evaluated. This would be your best bet to start with.

Running store. Get gait checked and pick what feels best. Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Adidas, Nike, Mizuno, etc. all make excellent running shoes. What works for one person may not work for another. I've personally found Brooks and Asics to be really good and I love my Adidas.
  • Ghosts by Brooks are my favorite so far. I have supination problems, and they help a lot with that. They are not too pricey for a good pair of running shoes...
  • Everyone's foot is different. When you do find the right one you will know. I tried Saucony out ten years ago on advice from a diehard runner friend. They are the only brand I wear now.

My current favorite is the Samson, by Altra. Looking forward to getting the Torin soon. I transitioned to zero-drop wearing a few different pairs of Newtons, but I don't wear them much anymore.

Brooks Glycerin 6 (uh it might be 7 by now). They have way more support & cushioning than any other shoe I've had. But they ain't cheap!

I started using Brooks Beasts about two years ago and won't even consider a different brand or model anymore. Great shoes for over pronated runners.

Asics gel and Brooks Cadence. I was fitted at a running store and found that my ankles roll inwards when I jog/walk. The shoes I bought are for stability. No problems at all! I prefer the Asics Gel shoes. THey are sooo comfy!

How does one find a running shoe store that can evaluate our gait?

I googled "get fitted for running shoes." I was fitted at a store called Omega. They were so helpful. The associate will videotape a person jogging on a treadmill while barefoot. I could see my ankles just rolling in. Prior to that, I was having all kinds of inner ankle pain. I just bought shoes based on comfort. I ended up with some Asics that feel soo good when I jog.

I have Asics Nimbus 14, but I underpronate, so that's the right shoe for me. My wife overpronates and would be miserable in them (she uses Asics GT-3000, BTW).

In other words, it's a very person-specific issue. Lots of shoes out there for a reason! Good luck!!

Brooks Ghost 5 for me. I knew they were the right shoe the moment I put them on. I am a neutral pronator.
