Basically I don't get enough protein in my diet and yes people will say 'why don't you just eat it' etc etc. I'm at the end of my current Whey Protein and wondered if there was one that anyone would recommend. Cheers

Loads of threads on this exact topic, it's well worth running a search.

you're not going too find many critics here of protein shakes.

the shakes that get a lot of flak (in my opinion, deservedly so) are the meal replacement shakes that some people try to use to help them lose weight.

MusclePharm Combat powder, orange creamsicle is tight. all flavors are good. Low in calorie, 130 per scoop, 25 Gs of Protein, if you buy the 4LBs its like 50 bucks, kind of pricey but it worth it. I also like Carnivor by musclemeds, its not whey protein its steak protein, crazy good, worth checking them out, bodybuilding.com hope it helps.

I drink Kaizen just because it's cheap at Cosco when it goes on sale. I think it tastes fine.

Healthy n Fit egg white protein powder is what I use (I'm allergic to whey and casein proteins) I get it from Netrition.com but they also sell it at the Vitamin Shoppe (but it's cheaper at Netrition). All natural, sweetened with stevia and a good amino acid profile.

    This.

A protein shake made to help boost your protein levels or to drink after a workout are actually not that rare. It is the shakes that are used as replacements for meals that get torn apart on here. I personally use a protein based powder and add it to smoothies I make out of fresh fruit and vegetables for after my workouts.

There is actually a groupon for this going on right now. My work uses the Optimum Nutrition egg protein, but I don't often take protein supplements myself so I'm not sure about specifics of it other than I think it tastes fine in the shakes we make with it. They are big tubs though so maybe it's not worth it if you haven't had it, but figured I'd throw it out there for anyone.

Edit: now that I'm looking at your profile though, OP, I dunno if you're from the States? so the Groupon thing might not apply ha. But again, I guess if anyone else is interested?

I can't stand whey, but I am very happy with Genisoy chocolate soy protein. It's less expensive than some of the other brands, and the flavor and texture are pretty good. My husband uses whey and he HATES Muscle Milk but he likes the NNW Healthy 100% Whey Protein he got at Hyvee. It's peanut butter and chocolate flavor.

If you want a protein BAR, I recommend either Quest Bar or Clif Builder Bar. The Builder Bars have better flavor, but the Quest bars have an insane amount of fiber to go along with the protein, and they're still fairly low in calories.

I would try to keep the ingredients as natural as possible...the less ingredients the better.

Muscle Gauge Nutrition makes two species of proteins that I use pretty religiously:

Pure isolate (~$55-$60 per 5#)- for cutting
American Isolate (~$40-$50 per 5#)- for bulking

I stick with these due to two main factors: nutritive value and financial value. Taste, well, I've put worse things in my body for a lot longer than it takes to drink a shake.
