150lbs. in One Year?

Hey there!
I'm 23 (in March), 280lbs., 5'4 (or 5'5 depending on the measuring tape, haha) female.
Recently, I was lead to believe it's possibly to lose 150lbs. in a healthy way over the course of a year. Some searching around seemed to confirm it. I figured it was probably best for me to ask here, upfront if that's really reasonable, though? I'm unemployed so I have no gym access (a friend is willing to give me their elliptical machine, though), and I'm vegetarian so the majority of meal plans I've found online don't really work for me (I don't eat tuna, prefer not to eat eggs or milk -- I really only drink water, no pop or juice or tea, etc).
This site only allows a max goal of 2lbs. a week, but I feel like 4lbs. would be a better target if I'm going to pull this off.
Also, would 1700cal be reasonable (I've heard back and forth about low cal diets and their effectiveness), or should I go lower? Any tips for a quasi-vegan (yes, I am the only fat vegetarian I know, as well!) ?
Thanks! And... hi, heh.

Actually, maybe 3lbs. would be better. That nine-month window is really tempting, though. xD I'm thinking two sets of 10 minutes on the elliptical machine for a work-out?0

Hi,
First of all, welcome. 2 pounds per week is healthy especially if you want to keep it off...it is more realistic for the habits. Secondly, I will say while weight is the "big" tracker that everyone focuses on, make sure you are measuring every week as well. When I jumped on the scale last week, I had gained 4 pounds, I wanted to cry! However, when I did my measurements, I was down 2" in the chest, 1" in the waist and 2" in the hips. Ok, I take 4 pounds of muscle anytime. Hang in there. Keep positive and stay focused. I normally try to stay between 1200-1500 calories a day, but I also workout a lot. You will hear a lot of things on here and other sites, but a general rule of thumb is this...Take your goal weight and add a 0 onto the end and that should be pretty close to what you should be eating. You'll hear a lot about TDEE, BMR, etc, however, I try to keep it simple. For example, it your goal weight is 130 pounds, you would eat approximately 1300 calories a day, however you need to work out as well. I used this method and lost 30 pounds in the first 3 months of last year, but then was in a boating accident and couldn't run because of a broken foot and ended up gaining it all back, hence, the reason I am here. Anyway, hit me up with a friend request and I will do what I can to be your cheerleader.

While I think it is possible I think it's a high goal. I am hoping to lose 100-110 in a one year time frame. The first month or two you will lose more than the 10 recommended but after that it will probably slow back down to just 8-12 pounds a month.
I also think 1700 is a little much for how much you want to lose. You might want to start with that for a few weeks to gradually get into it but I would assume 1400-1500 is more ideal (WITH EXERCISE!!) otherwise just 1200-1300.0
