Attacked

It's pretty sad how everytime I post on this site I feel attacked or belittled. I thought this was a site where I could come for support but I don't feel that I'm getting any if I post on the forums. I'm sorry if sometimes I may have dumb questions or my English and grammar aren't 100% correct but that's not what I'm here for help with. I guess I jus wont be making any posts after this one and ill go elsewhere if I have questions. It's too bad really.

I've noticed it too. Don't worry about it. The nice thing about MFP is anyone can join. Most people are pretty awesome, but some are Negative Nancy's that nag worse than an overbearing, intruding mother who doesn't know when to cut the apron strings.1

Oh my goodness I call the forums the high school locker room sometimes. Could be a few big mean bullies floating around. They dont like it when you post and ask how come there are so many big mean bullies, but I dont care. I have my 100 ounce Big Gulp filled with refreshing water to defend me. I'd still post but take everything said in the forums with a grain of salt. Just cuz they say the know it all doesnt mean they know it all. If you really want to be annoying WRITE IN ALL CAPS! That riles up a few coats. Take it for what it is first MFP is a tool to help you get fit that happens to have the option of community share. Unfortunately, as one poster put it, you sometimes have this mob mentality. If you are legitimate in what you are seeking and just looking for support...focus on the people who are supportive. Rely on your friends list because those people are who you truly want advice from. My two cents...have fun posting!0

That, and it's much easier to stick your foot in your mouth and be rude when you're not face to face with the person you're belittling.

Oh look, another "people are so mean" thread.......ggggreeaaat.
And my people are mean therad was the best people are mean thread.
One last thing, lets think about this, if there are multiple people are mean threads then by argument couldnt we say that there are multiple mean big bullies floating around.0 -

Thanks for proving my point!
I just don't understand why people post on a site created to support and help other people if your just going to do the opposite.1 -
Just overlook the negative and take the positives gladly. There are lots of people on here who aren't happy unless they're picking on someone... like the 2nd poster.
Good luck girl and feel free to ask any questions. Someone will always be helpful.0 -
ah but who really cares about all the bs...you can usually still get pretty good answers from someone along the way...just gotta weed through the blah blah blah and laugh that people will actually waste their own time to post a negative comment. It's quite fun to have such an impact on a stranger! At least that's the way I see it, if someone is that bored then hey...feel free to say what ya want to me, I'm a psych nurse...seriously no one can say anything I wont just laugh at anymore!0

ignore em no such thing as a stupid question as long as you find out what you needed to know!0

Not sure I ever heard of you or from you...
One thing you need to realize...
THIS IS THE INTERNET.
EVERYONE loves sarcasm here. Sadly, it NEVER translates well. And we all have agreed that we will still use it... despite knowing that.0 -

You could. Of course, there are other plausible explanations, which have nothing to do with people being "mean".0 -
I've stopped posting topics or even comments in the forum here. I just stick to my friends and the news feed on the Home page. No one can see what I say except those I allow to be on my list.0

My thoughts exactly. I found a weight-loss forum that you must first be approved by a moderator before you can join. The forum is mostly public and the users are VERY supportive. Trolls are quickly banned. If you're looking for feedback and don't want to deal with "I-think-I-am-better-than-you-therefore-I-will-attempt-to-show-off-to-the-internet-world-by-putting-you-down" like the guy you quoted, then avoid the MFP forums. He waits for users to post a topic that he could easily nit-pick to shreds, and then leaves some one-liner that I'm sure he thinks is witty, but is actually impolite and borderline cruel. I wonder if he talks to his mother that way.
Oh well. To each his own. His bitter, bitter own.0 -
There is a lot of BS- not going to deny that. But OP looking through your post history because I wanted to see what these attacks look like, I don't see a lot of recent posting- or attacking?
The internet is a collection of people from all corners of society and in numerous different countries, to think that everyone is going to see things the same and come to this site to hold each others hand and sing Kumbaya around the campfire is naive. If there are people that are truly being rude, ignore them. Most people here are just here to support each other and make connections with people that have similarities to them. Keep in mind though that just because people have different opinions and share them doesn't mean that they are bullying other members. 10 million people on this site- I'm sure there are friends for everyone.
Congrats on your new baby btw0 -

So...why are you here then? No, not being a meany or troll (especially by the actual definition of one)..just curious why you'd still come here if the other forum is so much better?0 -
You are going to quit MFP just because a troll said one sentance about your use of a word? Forget him/her and keep doing what works on here. Your health and weight loss is important. Just ignore people like that.0

Many people think that disagreeing is "trolling". Also many are tired of repost after repost. Completely different than "trolling".0 -
Just ignore them. Take away the things that help you, not hurt you. People can give constructive criticism without being jerks. Read with an open mind and don't take it too personally. Chances are they need support too. I'm all for sarcasm, but if you don't know the person, it can be taken as hurtful.0

Crystal, can you give examples? Before responding, I noticed that you have very few posts, so I went and checked and while I didn't check all 20 posts, I checked about half and don't really see anyone talking down you,. You started a Yoga thread where I thought everyone was very helpful
Link to something where you felt attacked, and then we''ll weigh in on if you were attacked, if you were being a big baby, and if this is another Mean People are So Mean thread.0 -

Because MFP comes in a handy iPhone app that is very convenient for keeping a food diary! The only way I have been able to lose weight is by planning my meals ahead of time and/or keeping a food diary. The other forum is just that. A forum. It does not have the awesome tools and calculators that MFP does. But it does have very positive members.0 -

No offence but I don't think it matters if anyone else doesn't feel she was attacked, SHE FELT ATTACKED.0 -

Agreed! Don't worry about negative responses to questions you ask...someone is bound to give you an answer without belittling you or making you feel bad for asking.0 -
Here's the thread I assume is the one you're referring to: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/864286-coconut-water
Just to give proper context to this situation.0 -
Rise above, girlfriend.
Your success in any venture will be defined by the perceived obstacles you overcome. If you let mild criticism get in your way of your health and/or fitness goals, you'll never get there. Just rise above and do you.0 -
Now *I* feel attacked! Oh when will it ever stop? sob*0

If you don't want people to be 'mean' to you when you post asking questions, if someone answers you always answers 'Thanks for the reply". Doesn't mean you have to DO what the person does, just don't argue back. Especially if you asked for people's opinions on something. If you ask for opinions you have to realize that you will get opinions you agree with and opinions you don't agree with and you must accept both answers. Again, doesn't mean you have to follow them. Also make sure you READ the replies as if they are given in a helpful way. Sometimes people 'choose' to read things in ways that were not intended.
I don't post a lot of topics but have posted some and have never had 'mean' replies.0 -
The coconut water post? To me it just looked like somebody was making a little joke, pretty harmless IMO but each to their own.
, if somebody has said something really directly offensive (has been racist, has made threats, etc) report them. If not, ignore it. It's the Internet, there will always be somebody with something negative to say.0 -

I DON'T APPRECIATE YOUR UNWARRANTED ATTACKS ON ME. IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I SUGGESTED WHY CAN'T YOU JUST MOVE ON INSTEAD OF ATTACKING ME??
