MIO HRM Watch

Does anyone out there have a MIO Heart Rate Monitor Watch, if so how do they like it? I see they don't use a chest strap which is appealing to me. I already have a Fitbit One that I wear everyday but I need something else to add to my group exercise strength type classes that I can't use that for (Les Mills Body Pump, Cx Worx and Body Flow). Thanks!

  • I have a MIO (with no chest strap) and really like it. I feel like it is pretty accurate as far as Heart Rate and calories burned. My only problem is that mine is a little big...almost made for a man (except that it came with an interchangeable strap that is pink.) Anyway, no problems with it!

Sounds like you're talking about the MIO Alpha. I've been looking at it but still doing fine with my Suunto. It connects to different iPhone apps with bluetooth so you can get your HR data at specific times in your workout i.e. climbing a hill when cycling.

I was looking at the Mio Motivia it's pink and says its designed for smaller wrists (which I have). Question how does it get your heart rate without the chest strap???

Here is the link that explains it.
It looks like they have two systems that work together. It reads by way of sensors and a light technology on the back of the watch. I think it some how measures blood flow. They also have a separate system that senses arm movement so I can tell the difference increased blood flow because you're standing just swinging that are and actual increase in blood flow due to an increase in heart rate. It does look pretty cool.

This link is a video I found that demos this watch against and ANT+ connected strap on iphones.
