Feet "burning" while Exercising

Hey all,

I am having some foot pain while I am exercising and am wondering if any of you have gone through this...

During my work out (turbo jam/kick boxing) from the middle to the ball of my foot feels like it's burning or being over stretched. It only happens when I am in a wide squat position for more then, I'd say about 30 seconds or more. Sometimes it becomes so unbearable that I have to take a break and stand up from the squat position and roll my feet around. After I do that I am able to continue with the work out but might have to repeat the break a while later. Any thoughts?!?!?

Just a FYI, I never work out bare foot. I know that's a "no no". HAHA! :)

    Tight tendons in your feet. Stretch them regularly. And there isn't anything wrong with working out bare foot. We weren't born with shoes on our feet. And minimalist shoes (like Vibrams) tend to feel better when doing squats, deadlifts or practically any feet on floor exercises.

    I have planter faciatis in my left foot (not my right it's weird because I'm right handed)... it SUCKS and it HURTS LIKE HELL!

    Anyway... apparently, I'm told to freeze a golf ball and place it under the area that hurts and roll it around. It will help break down the tendon (grooves from the golf ball) and over time, it will go back to normal. How much time? I don't know.

    My gf/massage therapist/go to girl said 5 mins a day twice a day and eventually it won't hurt as much and can go for longer. I'm stubborn and haven't been keeping up with it - more stupid than stubborn in this case - but, it has helped the times I have done it. I hope this helps!

    When I had it, I purchased these gel pads which you wore under your sock and provided cushioning for the ball of you foot, it alleviated some of the pain and eventually it healed on it's own.

    I've had this same foot pain when doing certain workout DVDs. As ninerbuff suggested, try workout without your shoes on or at least make sure you lace them very loosely. I always do my wrkouts at home barefoot and find it's much easier to move around (less friction). Also, the more often you walk around barefoot, the better it is for your feet, and some say your overall health. We rely far too much on shoes that weaken our feet and put them in unusual positions (high heels).
  • Thank you everyone for your input. I am going to try to stretch out the tendons (love the frozen golf ball idea) and get some gel inserts. Also I'm going to play around with the tightness of my laces. I have to work out in my shoes always during higher impact workouts like that because my right foot has 1.45 MM wedge in it that evens out my legs to prevent lower back trouble. (An issue I found out about a long time ago, that's what I meant by a "no no"... for me specifically)
