Running from the world.

I recently started running outside instead of on a treadmill and it's
Way harder, takes more effort but ultimately I love it.
My question is, do you burn more calories running outside rather
Than on a treadmill? I try to run 3 miles with the average pace of
12 minute miles. I read somewhere that basically every mile burns about 100 calories.
Hmm..

The short answer is yes. You also use more and different muscles, so I'm guessing the workout is a bit better.
  • It's definitely causing me to lose breath faster. Thanks man!

Oh man. I could go on a treadmill for hours if I really wanted to... I just don't ever want to cause treadmills are so boring!
Running, however, kicks my *kitten*! I get out of breath way faster and I ALWAYS feel it later if I run over a mile.
I'm not entirely sure the difference between the calories they burn but I think actual running works way more muscles and is way better for you.

I think they both have their benefits, for instance I do hill repeats and speed workouts on treadmills. Running outside, however, is exilirating. Fresh air, sunshine, just the joy of the run *sigh* can't wait until the temp is above 0degrees!

As far as cal burns, the only way to truly know is to wear a heart rate monitor because everyone is different because I actually find running outside is easier for me but it might just be because I'm outside and loving it :)
