Lent

I know it's a couple weeks away yet, but has anyone thought about what they might do for lent?

I was thinking about drinking nothing but water. Maybe a bit of squash to help it go down.

  • I know!! I usually give up diet coke/pepsi max because I drink waaaay too much - good chance to 'detox' ... but it is my only 'vice' when I'm dieting ... haven't made a call yet ... think I may come up with something positive in the "do a good deed" department instead ...

I give up meat on Fridays
  • I quit smoking with the help of an e-cig in December and am thinking of dropping it... (fingers crossed)

Last year I gave up meat for all of lent. I still ate fish and 'feasted' on Sundays. It was great for weightloss, and for self-discipline, and saved on the grocery bill. Used the extra money we saved to drop a couple of items into the donations box for the food bank. Not sure I want to do the same thing this year, but I really liked this one, because of the combo of self-control and doing for others.
  • @ Stepc - congrat.s on the no smoking, good luck with the e.cig thing - a friend of mine substituted carrot and celery cut to cigarette size. Worked for her!

(And thanks - I love your hair! Pink flamingo? I usually have coloured hair, but got sick of not being able to wear half my wardrobe because it clashed with my current hair colour, so decided to go blonde for summer. But this pic was trying to own the fact that I'm old and decrepit and now need reading glasses! :ohwell: )!

I have also used Lent for motivation to keep me on programme when I've been struggling.

I don't really have much left to give up. I thought about giving up fast food all together, but that might leave me in a bind. I'm thinking instead of giving up something I might set for myself a fitness goal, specifically with running mileage. Not sure yet.

Thanks for reminding me. I think that i will not give up anything, rather than start doing things more. Maybe pray before every meal or say something nice to someone everyday. Maybe i can give up some of "me" time during the season. I mean helping others that are less fortunate than myself.
