Could someone please tell me how to measure meat? Most measurements are done by ounces in the MFP database. I'm used to measuring everything out by the cup. How many oz of chicken, pork, etc... is in a cup?

This is what I found and here's a bonus I thought it was
This is a helpful thing to know when cooking bulk ground meat ahead of time to freeze and use in recipes at a later date. 1 pound of ground beef = 2 1/2 cups browned hamburger meat
5-6 whole EGGS = 1 cup
3 egg whites = 1 dl
6 egg yolks = 1 dl
8-10 egg whites = 1 cup
1 egg white = 2 tablespoons
12-14 egg yolks = 1 cup
1/4 pound BUTTER or MARGARINE = 1/2 cup
1 pound cottage CHEESE = 2 cups
1 pound regular grind COFFEE = 5 cups
1 medium LEMON = 3 to 4 tablespoons juice
1 juice ORANGE = 1/3 to 1/2 cup
1 pound brown SUGAR = 2 1/4 packed
1 pound confectioners sugar, sifted = 3 1/2 cups
1 pound sugar = 2 1/4 cups
1 pound all purpose FLOUR = 4 cups sifted
1 pound cake flour = 4 3/4 cups sifted
1 pound raw MACARONI = 4 cups
1 cup uncooked macaroni = 2 1/4 cups cooked

8 FLUID oz are in a cup... I think it's different when it comes to solid foods. But I could be wrong... :ohwell:0 -
The easiest rule I've heard and follow for meat is that 4 ounces is about the size of your palm.0

I have the opposite frustration - I'm used to the actual measure of food in grams, or ounces, measuring things by the cup confuses me!!0 -
Measuring meat by the palm of my hand doesn't sound like a bad idea... I'll keep that in mind.
If I had a scale, I wouldn't have a problem measuring by ounces, of course. Maybe I should look into buying a small one for the kitchen.0 -

I LOVE my kitchen scale, but I might be a wee bit obsessed with it. I'm trying to wean myself off of using it and get better and just estimating amounts. But, it sure is nice at first and when measuring really calorie-dense foods like nuts or peanut butter where half an ounce can be a difference of 50+ calories! I got mine on Amazon.com for under $20 and it is really simple to use and small enough to tuck away in a cabinet or drawer when not in use (which, in my kitchen, is hardly ever.....)0 -
An old WW trick -- 4 ounces is the size of your palm or a deck of cards. I always picture the deck of cards since I can figure the thickness as well as the size. HTH0
