I start countingmy step daily. Can I count the steps I take at work and home as my exercise. At work I walk about 3 mile a day. But I have been told I can count that as my exercise. At my job I am walking orstanding all day long. So do I or don't I count it. Please help me?

I have a fitbit, and it counts steps I do at work, but it doesn't "award" me as many calories burned from them as much as when I am walking to/from work (faster pace, on a gradient, etc.).0

did you count those steps as exercise before???0 -
I think it is important to separate daily activity which you can factor in e.g. lightly activy moderately active etc from purposeful exercise.
Activity will burn some calories but unless you are getting out of breath / doing it for a sustained period it won't have the same benefits for your heart etc.0 -
MFP has an activity level that takes into account your everyday activity including work. So set yourself to active or lightly active by checking which description best matches what you do. If you do any additional walking as formal exercise, keeping the pace up and getting slightly out of breath, record that as "Walking X MPH" depending on your speed on the Exercise tab.0

this!! When I got one, I figured out that all the little things I was doing on daily basis added up to over 12,000 steps a day--despite the hours of sitting on my butt on the couch!0 -
thank you to you all.
I just can't wait until spring time to start walking again.0 -
Tracking your steps is a great tool, but I wouldn't count it in my exercise minutes unless you are out for a fast paced walk and your heart is pumping!!! Lucky you that you aren't stuck at a desk all day!0
