P90x? Or no?

Hello! So, I am going on vacation in June this year with my boyfriend, and I have a goal of losing up to 40 pounds by then. Im 5'5 and right now i weigh 161. It's been really hard lately to do so, I still live with my parents and the only types of foods they buy are crap :(. I have tried to stick with eating 1200 calories a day but that is super hard. what do i do about that?? and i workout every morning with has fit, and they are really good, they don't take up a lot of my time, and I'm still a little sore afterwards. But besides that I have the p90x set of DVDs, and a friend of mine told me that if I really wanted to see results that I needed to try that. But I have heard that you don't get a lot of weight loss in that program... Is this true? What should I do? I need help :(

I think you need to stop making excuses. I live on my own, have 2 jobs, study law full-time and still eat healthy and work out 4 times a week. There are tons of other people who work even harder than me and don't complain. If you have enough money to go on vacation then you have enough money to buy healthy food and buy a couple of fitness and nutrition books.

1200 is just stupid unless you, eg 5 foot 1 and weight 100 lbs. You are neither so work out your TDEE and eat 10-30% lower than your TDEE.

P90X is a tough program for beginners, if you are committed now, then you won't commit to the program.

    Good luck.

go to www.teambeachbody.com and get on the forums they have a board with success pictures for each program that people post (just like people do here on MFP but only for p90x users) you will see TONS of people who have lost weight with the program. So no it is not true that you won't lose weight with the program. It is a good mix of cardio, core, and weight training. But it is a commitment. It can be a good program for beginners pick weights you can succeed with but challenge you on the last few reps. Modify the impact moves as needed on the cardio activities, pay attention to your form throughout, and be prepared to dedicate the time I think the longest workout would be yoga days.

I started P90x when i was very unfit, and not very strong.

The first few weeks were hard, but you just keep within your limits.

By the 4th week i was so pumped after a workout i couldn't wait for the next one. Around this time i was about 110kg.

I dont do it anymore. Fell sick, and off the bandwagon :/ but i'll eventually get back into it.

Even if you just do the Yoga (That was my fav) You will sweat buckets.

P90X is a well designed fitness and healthy eating program. However, in order for the program to work you have to commit to it. A lot of the work outs are an hour and the yoga is 90 mins. The program requires you to work out at least 6 days a week, and you will need weights a pull up bar and a yoga mat. In addition, the way you see results is by following the eating program along with the work out program. The reason people do not see results is because they don't completely follow the program. I tried P90X and realized it wasn't for me....I have one full time and 2 part time jobs and I couldn't devote 6 days a week to the work outs.

I know the Insanity program has shorter workouts and is also supposed to be pretty effective. The best thing to do is research different programs and find one you think you can really commit to.

Just an fyi, tony made a replacement for yoga x called the fountain of life yoga which is about 50 minutes.

    Cheers!
  • Yes, you can make your goal if you commit to it. Let's see, you are talking about losing 40 lbs in about 18 weeks. That's almost 2 1/4 lbs per week. Definitely doable but your diet is going to be the main thing that will get you there. If you are relying on any kind of workout, P90X included, without doing the diet, you will be disappointed.

I highly recommend P90X. I use a Whole30 diet instead of the P90X one, and highly recommend it. You can achieve what you want with diet alone but you will be so much more pleased with the muscle tone doing P90X or a similar workout.

If 75 to 90 minutes total per day is "too much" of your time for exercise, you will either need to modify P90X to shorten the time or go with a different routine. I'd say your biggest challenge is being in a household of people eating junk. That is tough, but you can do it. And your transformation might turn out to be a huge positive influence on your parents and their health.

Expect the first month to be tough, but you have what it takes to do it. Just make up your mind that where you are now is not where you want to be and stick with your decision. The second and following months, you will be motivated by how much better you feel and look, and have the confidence that you can do it!
