I had an eye opening experience last week, and I need to lose weight. I am not happy at my current weight. I have given up pop, smoking, most fast food, and I am filling out my diary daily. I have joined a gyn and go every night. I drink water all day, and even though it has only been a week, I am frusterated that I haven't lost a single pound... but I am not giving up yet...

Welcome, your taking all the best steps to success. Don't be discouraged, when you least expect it the scales will start to move downward and then you're off. to a great start. This is a very good place to realize your goals.0

I have had the same trouble with the scale, but you should try measuring yourself instead. While you might not see the pounds come off, you might see the inches come off. Keep it up. :-)0

A BIG IOWA WELCOME to you!!!! I grew up in Iowa although I'm now in Illinois. I'm recently retired and my biggest dream is to move back to Iowa...
You'll fall in love with this site!!! The people are GREAT! And the tools are really beneficial... NEVER give up and yourself, just try different strategies and find the one that works for you.
Wishing you the success you are seeking.... (This site helped me not only lose the weight I wanted to lose, but, more importantly, to get my blood pressure back to a level that doesn't require medication.) Along the way, if you have questions, toss them on the MB and others are ALWAYS supportive and happy to give suggestions...0 -
Hi, do not give up. I know how frustrated you are. I was there too. I started working out, stopped drinking the 1 pop per day that I drank, strated cwatching what i ate, eating more healthy, and smaller portions, working out 30 to 45 minutes 2 times per day and all I did was put on weight. I had stopped smoking 3 years ago. I then found this site March 27th and started logging everything that I ate and still not losing weight. I dropped my work outs down to 45 to 60 minutes almost daily and still nothing. I then increased my protein intake and started the 30 day shred program by Jillian Michaels and have dropped from 173 to 167 in one week. I do not know if it is because I just stuck with it and as some people say you start to see results after 2 months or if it is che change. But hang in there. Good luck, ndnlou0

What would you miss about Iowa? The hot *kitten* summers? Freezing winters? Oh, the spring floods? I can't wait to move closer to the ocean once all the kids are out of college0 -

I'm from Iowa too! Moved to Kansas for awhile but missed this place like hell. There's a lot to miss, and it made me realize Iowa isn't the worst place to live. It's beautiful here, and I don't think I'd move again.
Anyway.. Welcome to the site! You'll find this place is super helpful. I wish you luck!0 -

Well I love New Orleans as well but:
"hot *kitten* summers": check. got those.
"freezing winters" : don't have those, so that's nice.
"spring floods": it floods here every time it thunderstorms, which is a lot, and we have hurricanes. Not to mention a slew of other problems.
I probably won't move back to Iowa because of my career field, but Iowa is beautiful. It is clean. The schools are good. It is relatively safe. Midwesterners are mostly humble and nice. I could go on, it's not perfect, but it is still a nice place to call home and raise a family.0 -
I guess...lol
But In Cedar Rapids, we have the 5 smells (depending on what side of town you are on). We have the flooded district, about 10% of the cities houses are still needing to be torn down after the floods of 2008 destroyed 20% of the city. But since I am actually from California, the crime is much lower here (except sexual abuse, which is very disturbing)... So as much as I wanna leave, I want my children to grow up here and have values before heading to the big bad city! lol0 -

Cedar Rapids? My sister used to live there, and I know about "the smell". Last time I was there was before the flooding, but I think it's the factories, right? Well, I'm lucky that I live in a small town near Des Moines, and we don't have those smells! I was told that you kinda get used to it after awhile, though. lol0 -
My maternal grandparents lived in Western Iowa,, and I was born and grew up in Eastern Iowa, and as a child I counted telephone poles as we traveled the 8 hour trip - wanna know how many poles are between Eastern and Western Iowa? [Made a trip to Western Iowa recently and I see that the trip now takes less time, and I notice the "beauty" of the country landscape is awesome...]
Anyway, as a young adult, I yearned for the excitement of the big city and moved to Chicago. Now as a retired senior citizen, that excitement isn't as enjoyable anymore. I still LOVE the Chicago skyline and the big buildings, but I now dream of the day that I can move back to the Eastern Iowa "small town culture". Family and friendly people far outweigh climate issues. My daughter has moved around the country in search of a job, and no matter what state or what city she decides to settle in, she doesn't find it to be a "perfect" situation. I think one has to weigh the pros and cons of a place, and understand that one man's heaven may be another man's h***. In my case, the pros list for moving to a small town in Eastern Iowa is far, far, far longer than the cons list. Bring on those storms--- I've dealt with worse! :laugh:0
