Short term VLC - good or bad

Ive just started a very low calorie diet in order to shift 20 - 30 pounds quickly, say 6 weeks. I am doing this because I had back surgery some years ago, and my current weight prevents me from doing much in the way aerobic exercise. Therefore, when I have dropped the quick weight I should be able to exercise. The plan is then to commence a balanced healthy diet to reduce weight at a sustainable and healthy rate. I am aware that a VLC diet will eat at my muscle mass as well as my fat, but I can rectify this in the next phase with increased protein portions. Just wanted to get some feedback on my logic here, advise welcome

Not sure how smart it is, but it can be done. When I first started my weight loss, I lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks with no exercise. It seemed to work for me but I'm not sure I'd recommend it due to potential problems.
  • Ok, I don't think you can you do too much damage in 6 weeks and the long term benefits outweigh and negative I think. I am still fit and active, play rugby most weekends but cannot jog due to my back, can't swim and cycling really doesn't appeal. I used to do a lot of weights when I was younger so can get away with losing some muscle anyway

So how did you lose the other 35 pounds

I started exercising (mostly cardio, some weight training) and eat more calories (usually a net of 1400-1450 calories).
