Thinking of going to a spin class this morning for the first time. Im not really big on fitness classes as I tend to keep to myself. However, I feel like I need a fun way to get cardio in and this might be one of them. Gotta try something once or you dont know what you're missing out on right? Any thoughts? Tips?

I would absolutely recommend it! Spinning is great exercise, and if you don't like it, all you have to do is not come back and find something else that you enjoy instead. I find that most people in these classes (in my case it was Zumba) are quite friendly if you approach them, but also take the hint if you want to be left alone at the back of the class :P
GOOD LUCK!0 -
Spinning is a fabulous workout. If you don't like it the first time, I recommend giving it a couple more tries. It can take a while to get used to the bike/seat/pedals, especially if you don't ride an "outside" bike. I hated my first class, but finally went back and was hooked. As with any exercise class, finding an instructor you like (with a good playlist!) is also key.
Some studios have bikes that actually move side to side, which is REALLY an intense workout--we're talkin' buckets o' sweat. You can see a video of these bikes (Real Ryder) here: http://www.realryder.com/
Have fun!
Just discovered there are much better demo videos on youtube...search for "Real Ryder".0 -
I agree. I didn't make it through my first spin class because it was more intense than I had anticipated, I was out of shape and I didn't care for the teacher. She thought that everyone should be at the same level regardless.
But I just recently started again and I love it! I knew what to expect and I had been working out more regularly so my body was more prepared. And we have a great teacher who pushes us to give our all but understands that someone who has never taken it isn't going to be going as fast as someone who has been taking it for years.
Overall it's a great work out. I wish I had time to take it twice a week!0 -
Don't try to push it too hard at first... Advise bringing a padded seat if you have one..or can get one of those slip on kinds.. the seat is hard as .... well...
Ask instructor to show you the set up positions..and how to adjust your bike for your height0 -
I did go this morning. The jury is still out on whether I liked it or not. I did sweat a ton which was really good. My body was not having it for the first 30 mins I felt awful. I stuck through it and about halfway through I felt a lot better guess my muscles just had to loosen up more. I was able to keep up with the moves, but I did keep it low on the resistance and only upped it about half the time. I didnt want to burn myself out and have to do less because of it. I felt like my heart rate was a in a good spot regardless.
I do need to get a padded seat because I feel like I can no longer have children after that. Ill probably give it a couple more tries and see if it's for me.0 -
Spin....love it!!!! Burn loads of calories, I hate the seats but you can buy a gel seat cover from Walmart and being apart of a group is great for motivation and support too. Classes at the gym will challenge you physically and mentally, but you can do it! Remember we all were beginners at some point!0

Just keep sitting on the seat. After a couple of times, you won't be sore.0

I love it and go nearly every day.
My studio is dark, loud, with black lights, etc. so it's so much fun. Great music makes or breaks the class, IMO.
I would definitely recommend giving it time getting used to the seat. Most of my instructors stay out of the saddle for most of the class which helps tremendously. If you decide you may want to stick it out, getting shoes is imperative. Clipping in changes the workout completely.
Another huge benefit is that you can pretty much tailor your workout. Some days I just don't have it in me, so I pull back on the resistance. But you totally have control over your intensity.
I usually burn anywhere between 650-800 cals per my HRM in an hour.0 -
