I am so frustrated

I eat fruits and veggies moatly. I usually have 1/2 cup greek yogurt, a cheese stick, and some small amount of grilled chicken, salmon, or tilapia. But the things that make up most my diet are fruits and veggies.

And it sucks!! I am always right under my calorie intake, way below fat, but my sugar is like 2 times what MFP says it should be!! Even green beans have a high sugar intake.

I feel like I'm doing what I am supposed to but I'm worried because my sugar intake is so high that I won't lose weight.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't worry at all if your sugar is coming from fruit or veggies. It's the processed sugar you don't want!

My sugar was 100-300g per day probably 80% of the time during the 6 months I was doing really well. I was eating ice cream and chocolate bars and pepsi, but staying under my calorie limit. I did well on the weight loss, 30lbs in 6 months. I had other issues but not related to your topic.

Eating sugars from a healthy mix of fruit and veggies will not harm your weight loss, especially (and most importantly notable) since you are eating under your calorie goal for the day.

Calorie deficit is what creates weight loss.

If you're in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight.

Do not stress about sugar from fruits and vegetables! It's good for you and easily broken down in your system. Stay away from processed sugar and processed carbohydrates (they turn to sugar and are then stored as fat).

If you're not diabetic or with some similar problem metabolising sugar, I suggest tracking something else and dropping sugar from your food diary. I found the same as you - just a few veg & a modest amount of fruit put the sugar total over. I think MFP's setting is unrealistically low. As eating those fruits & veg is good for you - fibre, vitamins etc - don't worry about it. I'd try not to eat foods & drinks with added refined sugar, except as small treats.

sugar doesn't make you fat, just like fat doesn't make you fat....eating over a maintenance level of calories makes you fat. Only concern with sugar would be if you have a medical issue, pre diabetic, etc. You should probably get more protein though...when you eat at a deficit and you lack protein in your diet, you lose a lot of lean body mass along with that fat.

100% spot on post. +1 :drinker:
  • Fruits and veggies are good for you :)- I am ALWAYS over on days when i incorporate fruit in my protein shakes or breakfast. As long as you are at a caloric deficit, you will lose. Yes, insulin levels do play a role in weight loss- keeping those levels manageable is important. However, fruits and veggies arent going to give you the tremendous spikes that some sodas and snack foods will- also, your body can more easily digest these types of sugars as opposed to the processed ones. Its like anything else, enjoy it in moderation- try to eat as fresh as possible and chose options lower in the glycemic index whenever possible.

Please tell me what the difference is between fruit sugar and processed sugar / carbs. Fructose, glucose, sucrose, all digested the same.
