:drinker: Hello Ladies,
I just have a quick question about people's different experiences with bloating during their TOM...I have PCOS and was just started on medication. This week was my first time having a visit from Dear Aunt Flow:flowerforyou: in over a year, so I was very excited to know that my hard work was paying off and my body was balancing out. However, though I have been able to stay focused and continue eating clean and exercising, I have not been able to lose an ounce! Its very frustrating  because im trying to figure out if its because of bloating or something related to my period, though it was very spuradic and only lasted a couple of days, or if I'm doing something wrong with my eating or not pushing myself hard enough exercise wise...any thoughts?
Thanks for your time!

I always weigh heavier at TOM. I've learned to live with it. Unfortunately my food cravings (especially sweet things) are also out of control at this time.0

Yes, it's very common for women to gain several pounds of water bloat during PMS and/or their period.
Since you have PCOS, has your doctor checked your progesterone and other hormone levels? I was put on high-estrogen birth control pills for many years to "help" with PCOS, and it made me GAIN weight since I have insulin resistance. My estrogen was fine, so I didn't need the pills. My doctor was so mad.
He took me off those and put me on progesterone drops and metformin. Now, I don't retain as much water, I sleep better, the weight is coming off, and my moods are *infinitely* better. Having low progesterone is, basically, putting your body into a constant state of PMS. If your doctor didn't do bloodwork, I highly recommend having your hormones and insulin/glucose tested if your insurance will cover it.0 -

I also have PCOS, and I know that even before my treatment or weight loss journey began, I weighed more during AF than the rest of the month. I'd wait until you're done to get a more accurate reading. In fact, I'm reading a book about healthy living (including weight loss) right now, and the author says women should only weigh themselves once a MONTH, because of the fluctuations that happen throughout their cycles. Makes sense to me, but I still weigh once a week since I started trying to lose weight. Gives me accountability and feedback as to whether or not I'm on the right track, or if I need to change anything. But I give myself some wiggle room during AF.
Since your body is "purging", it's good to eat lots of protein, healthy fats, and extra hydration while you're on AF, so that your body will not be too depleted. Extra iron wouldn't hurt, either.
And as PP said, some medications (particularly synthetic hormones) can cause weight gain. If you're interested in how I treat my PCOS with *zero* prescriptions, you can message me and I'd be happy to share with you.0 -
I have PCODs as well! But my cycle has been regular for the past three years! Thank god! But I still have hormonal imbalance and it affects my weight a lot! I've stopped taking the hormone pills because I tend to bloat a lot during the course of the medication! Exercising is helping a lot though ! I work out for an hour and a half every day and it seems to be working!0

I have PCOS too and have realized that as the weight comes off my cycle gets a little more regular, thankfully! I do find that it is much more difficult to lose weight for me. Others around me eat similar foods and the weight just drops off while I am stuck with 1 pound every two weeks if I am lucky.
I am hoping that I can keep my willpower going strong this stretch and finally accomplish my goals0
