Prednisone- any suggestions on controlling appetite???

So I am an asthmatic and every year I have asthma attacks that are so devastating it knocks me out of commission for at least a week. So I am currently on bed rest, limited exercise and have been ordered by the doctor to stay in the house. My issue is the medication they put me on to help open my lungs. Prednisone makes me want to eat EVERYTHING!!!! I've tried choosing healthier options such as raw veggies or fruit, but I still feel hungry. I have put so much work in already and still have a long way to go. I do not want to go backwards, but I don't know how to control the eating urges while on the Predinose for the next 12 days. Any suggestions???

    I was on Dexamethasone for over a year and I had a terrible time not eating everything in sight and packed on 20 pounds while still having to deal with all the side affects of steroids. I would suggest stocking your refrigerator with fruits, vegetables, yogurt, light juices or water.

    I don't know what to tell you. I had Bronchitis a month ago, and was put on Prednisone. And like you there was absolutly no controlling my apitite while I was on it.

    To tell you the truth I think i just now finally recovered fully where I'm as active as i was before, and being able to control my apitite. good news is the damage was only 5 lbs. Good thing it's summer time.
  • Try eating lots of high fiber foods - Jicama, apples, carrots, etc., those should make you feel full for a while, at least. If I eat one thing with sugar, I crave sugar the rest of the day, so no sugar/sweets. And lots and lots of H20.

    I agree with this although I would further specify google some info on Glycaemic index and try to eat lower GI foods because a) they help you feel full for longer and b) prednisone can be associated with increased blood sugar levels (much like the effects of diabetes) and low GI foods should help keep your blood sugars reasonably stable.
