Can somebody PLEASE explain!!!

I have been steadily losing weight the past few weeks. I weigh in every Monday. This morning the scale went up 7 lbs!! How is that possible?!! The only I've done different is drink less water. I was reading that people have died from drinking too much water and that your kidney can only filter through 4 liters. I took a quiz to see how much I should be drinking and I've been drinking about 3 liters (a little over 12 cups). What gives?! 7 lbs is A LOT! I'm trying to be focused and not discouraged, but I'm confused by this change.

You are only going to die of too much water if you aren't replacing lost electrolytes. So if you are an athlete, performing at a very high level of intensity, you need to replace not just the volume of water you sweat out, but also the electrolytes. If you are eating regularly along with drinking water, you should be fine. Your kidneys can handle about a litre of water per HOUR, so that's easily 12L during waking hours alone. Drink as much as you like and don't worry about it being too much.

As for the weight gain, sorry, I can't explain that. It happens sometimes. Might be you were off the centre balance and it gave an off reading, maybe your clothes were heavy (does anyone weigh themselves in clothes in the privacy of their own home?), maybe if it's digital it needs a new battery, maybe it was just a blip. Give it another go tomorrow and then again next week and see what it says.

don't worry about it. for whatever reason, your body is holding onto some extra water right now. 1 gallon of water weighs a little more than 8 lbs. it'll get flushed out soon enough.

the problem with drinking too much water is when you drink too much too quickly. that's called "water intoxication". it would be very, very difficult to accidentally meet the requirements for this condition.

If I were female I would weigh myself once a month, if you see what I am getting at.
