Could my new eating/exercise routine be effecting my period?

This is kind of a TMI post, but I thought someone in here might have some helpful advice on this.

3 weeks ago I started a new eating and exercise routine. I used to be a huge carb-o-holic, and I decided to try low-carb for a while, so I've been sticking to around 100g of carbs or less every day, and eating lots of protein, veggies and fruit. I'm going to the gym about 3 times a week and doing 30 min cardio and 30 min weights. Nothing crazy, really. I'm feeling pretty great, more energy, losing some weight, etc.

I've been on Yaz (birth control) for about 8 years straight, no side effects, and always a regular period. Never had spotting.

Well... my period is due in about a week, but I've been spotting for 3 days and today it seems like I'm actually getting my period. This has never ever happened before, so I'm kinda freaking out. I'm really hoping it's just my diet change, and not something else... like pregnancy.

So - has this happened to any other ladies when starting a new diet/exercise regime?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Toxikon

I went from having my TOM maybe once every 3-4 months (PCOS! Joy!) to getting one every 3 weeks when I started working out and eating halfway right. Exercise will throw your hormones into a bit of a tizzy, which is why some women that work out uber-hard don't always get their regular flow. Also, if you have any insulin-sensitivity, carbs will mess up your hormones and periods as well. Now that you're eating fewer, your body's most likely trying to adjust to the new eating habits.

I guess moral of the story: The spotting might just be harmless cysts, or it could be whacked hormones, or it might be implantation bleeding and the "feeling like your about to start" is early pregnancy cramping. Wait a few days, pee on a stick, and if positive, congrats :flowerforyou: If negative and still hasn't started by around a week or two after your expected start, call a doc.

    G'luck!
