Do you recalculate?

MFP suggests I recalculate every ten pounds of weight loss. Should i recalculate?

    Yes, I didn't the first time it prompted me and didnt lose weight for two weeks then when I recalculated I started losing again.the less you weigh the less your body needs :grumble:

    Im a day new to this site. what does recalulate mean? and will it tell you when you lose weight? or is that at your weigh in? and when do you weigh in? im all confused.

    I always did. The smaller you are, the less calories you need daily.

    I haven't recalculated since I started 35 pounds ago. I'm still losing weight just fine, but then I'm not really that anal about having to lose 2 pounds every single week. Sometimes it's only 1, other times 2.5. I just know that the weight is going to come off one way or another and if I had recalculated by now, it would tell me to eat only 1200 a day and I just won't do it.

    so not very significant,

    but not sure how accurate this number is.


    EDIT how much did it change your cal allowance, any idea?

    To the newbies, MFP asks you to recalculate each time you lose 10 pounds. I didn't recalculate last time but I will now. It is not automatic though. You can keep it the same.

    How does one " recalculate"? I have never done this. - I have lost 45+ on MFP and I never got prompted to recalculate.

    yes I did the recalculate when it prompted me :)


    However... as I am getting closer to my goal, I have adjusted my weight loss goal which has increased my calorie recommendation. I don't need to focus on the 2 lb/wk anymore so adjusted it to 1.5 lb/wk, and then again today to 1 lb/wk. This way once I reach my goal weight, it will be easier for my body to adjust to maintance.

    For me, it was taking off 10 calories for every lb I lost.

    Yes. Your BMR decreases as you lose weight.

    Yes, recalculate based on your lighter weight or your loss could slow.
    Simply getting up and walking across the room will require fewer calories because your muscles don't work as hard since they are moving less weight.
    If you don't revise your allowable intake, you'll probably still be on a significant deficit, so it's unlikely you'll gain. Just won't lose as fast.

    I have recauculated and I don't agree with what was suggested. 1200 calories are not enough to cover my needs for standing still! I try to use other more scientific calculators online, there are so many that make more sense.

    I recalcualte every 5 lbs, I have only lost ten so far but still. I was amazed at how much of a difference those ten pounds made to my calorie intake. I lost almost 200 calories.....it was super sad.
