Oil Pulling

I didn't know what heading to put this under, but does anyone on here participate in oil pulling? Can you tell me about it? I've heard a lot of people that believe in non-trad medical remedies or paleo diet are into this.

I had to google it and it made me throw up a little. I'll just stick to my Listerine. I can't imagine walking around with a slick oily mouth for hours after that!

It works best with pure unicorn oil.

Yeah, I read a short article about it and it sounds pretty gross. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it and what the result was and WHY they started.

No, dragon oil. You use unicorn oil to jump start your metabolism.

Is that what they call the oily stool you get when taking Alli?

It sounds relatively unpleasant. I wouldn't want to swish anything for 20 minutes, much less oil.

I have a friend who does it with coconut oil, and she says it's gross what comes out of your mouth. She claims her teeth have gotten whiter, her gums healthier looking and it may have cleared her skin up. I haven't seen her in a while so I can't verify these claims. But, if you want to try it, go for it. Seems harmless enough.

After a thorough review of this practice, I declare that it is ridiculous.

It was a topic on Dr. Oz today. The reason for doing it is that the oil is suppose to pull the toxins out of your mouth. This is what I printed out today from his website.

Sesame & Sunflower Oils: There's an ancient Ayervedic technique called "Oil Pulling" This technique pulls toxins out of the body through the mouth, gets rid of bad bacteria and helps boost gum health while whitening your teeth. Believe it or not, all you need is a shot of sesame oil or sunflower oil.

After brushing your teeth, place 1 tablespoon of preferred oil in the mouth on an empty stomach. Close mouth. Slowly "pull" the oil by swishing it all over the teeth and gums. The process ensures all toxins will be trapped in the oil so you can safely remove them from the body. DO NOT SWALLOW THE OIL! It contains toxins that have been released and you do not want these in your body.

I had not heard of it before. The lady that told of it said that this is what celebrities are doing, for whatever that is worth. You can go to www.doctoroz.com if you want to check it out.

It didn't say it in the instructions, but on the program she said to swish it around for 15-20 minutes.

Sounds interesting to me and no harm trying it. I already have coconut oil by the teaspoon in the morning so might try this tomorrow morning.

I tend to do that too. I'm not a fan of Dr. Oz. Celebrity doctors don't sit well with me.

The part about toxins being pulled out is just BS. There have been people who have had improvement in the mouth like the person's friend (posted above). This is mostly do to the stimulation of the gums by swishing the oil around for 20 minutes. Coconut oil does have properties that contribute to healing gums and whitening teeth too. I tried it a couple of times just to try to make my gums better (they're receding) but it takes so stinking long and really is gross feeling all that oil in your mouth. I have found my waterpik from Costco works just as well but much faster and without the ick factor. You can put listerine, tea tree oil, hydrogen peroxide or other healing type liquid in your waterpik and get all those benefits without slupring oil around your mouth for 20 minutes. Just the water alone stimulates the gums and cleans though. Even if you use a waterpik you still need to floss though.
