Novasure vs. Mirena (PLEASE HELP ME!)

So this isn't weight related but it is weighing on me heavily. I have had very heavy periods. This last Thursday I ended up in the E.R. because of excessive menstral bleeding. I went through 7 super overnight pads in 2 hours. Had my follow up with OB this afternoon. He has given me 2 options, Novasure & Mirena.

First the Novasure, the doctor won't do that until I have my tubes tied. Then the Novasure procedure. The pamphlet says 90% success rate. However, then I would be losing the hormones I am currently receiving from my birth control pills which also help keep my ovarian cysts at bay. I don't want to be trading one problem for another.

The second option Mirena still has hormones, a 70% success rate but also 30% of women have hormone problems. I am so confused.

Anyone have experience with either one of them, I would love your thoughts or experiences.

    I have mirena, didn't have the same issues as you, but I'm n my second round of mirena. I have no period at all, although I cn tell when I am ovulating, and when my hormones are cycling. I haven't had many issues- losing weight has been difficult, but I asked the doctor and she said its because I'm getting older, not the mirena (nice, right? I'm only 34) anyway, it's been great for me.

    Check with another Dr. I had Novasure done when it was new and have never looked back. No more periods, no more hormonal migraines, no PMS etc. very grateful for it. I did not have my tubes tied. I have a few friends that have had it as well with the same success. It would be dangerous if pregnancy occurred which may be the reason your Dr wants to do it.

    Edited because I dealt with ovarian cysts all the time as well and have not had one since.

    I DO NOT recommend Mirena! I had one between my 2nd & 3rd child & had a very bad experience. I had it for 3 years. My periods were heavier & more often for 2 weeks at a time and had horrible cramps. One day when I couldn't stand up from the pain I went to the Dr and he said the IUD had let go on one side and was all wound up around itself. I was lucky both sides hadn't let go or I would have had to have surgery to remove it, which happened to one of my friends. The Mirena is known for this. Definately do your research on all options before you decide.

    Was Depoprovera not an option? I had a para guard and loved it, but no experience with a Minera.

    I used to have super heavy periods. Got the mirena, LOVE IT. Now my period lasts like 3 days and it's hardly anything at all. SO satisfied.

    The mirena didn't work for me. I had it after my second baby and it became dislodged and then it fell out....

    I've had Mirena for three years and love it! My periods were never very heavy, but I don't have anything any more since the Mirena. Something I learned after having it that I wished I'd known, though - you might get spasms that feel like baby kicks. VERY disconcerting 12 weeks postpartum! It went away though.

    I'm on my 4th year of Mirena and I like it a lot. At first it was tough, but looking back now it has been great!

    I just got the Mirena at the end of November and so far I absolutely love it. My period went away pretty much instantly which is awesome!

    There will be potential side effects with anything...it's just a matter of picking what is going to work best for you :)

    I love my Mirena. I have no periods and don't have to think about it at all.

    I've had Mirena in for 3.5 years and have had no issues. Cramping the first month which is normal and no periods since insertion. It's worked well for me.

    I have been looking into nova sure, as well. It is designed to help with our issues, whereas the mirena is not. Further, you can get tubal implants at the same time as the nova sure procedure. This is a less invasive version of tubal ligation. If your doctor can't do them together, look for a new dr, as this is a common combo, given the health risks of becoming pregnant after ablation.

    My daughter used mirena and did not have any periods for 6yrs. It was great. She needs to have it replaced now.

    I have mirena and LOVE it! I got it end of November and after the initial pain of insertion and cramping on and off for a few weeks I've had no problems with it! I've had one period since I got it inserted and was very light only lasting a few days. Haven't noticed any difference in my weight loss since I've had it. I know lots of people of problems with it but it also is perfect for others.
